Labyrinth of the Demon King released today - King's Field-esque retro first person horror dungeon crawler (PC, PS, Xbox, Switch)

This game is so cool but my god am I getting my ass beat! The difficulty actually makes it legit scary and after an hour or two now I am starting to wrap my head around the moveset more. It feels super weird at first but once you start feeling it, it's kinda fuck yea?

Pro tip: when you die you don't have to reload your save, you actually respawn with full health and don't lose progress. That's thankfully fair for how brutal the enemies are.

I'd definitely try the demo first and go into Training Mode to see if the combat is your cup o tea.

What the fuck is this vertical black bars along the side shit? Is there any way to not have that be there? Didnt see any options for that, PS5 version. No thanks if i cant play it without that....gross

As I feared, FOV is a problem, it is what it is. Oh well, I'm more than busy with Oblivion and now DOOM, hope the game is successful though, dig everything about it otherwise.

So I am putzing around the first tower... killed the first boss, and about to leave and got a question regarding the broken katana, should i use the rusty one or is there a better one?

Game is really cool. And tough. But it seems it needs some smoothing as you constantly have to move your mouse over to click and confirm, even though you can navigate menus and text boxes with WASD. The ingame interact button does not double as a confirm button which is such a basic thing to overlook in my opinion. And checking stuff locks you in for about a second which is annoying. If you quickly enter and exit menu you can get around this
I don't like really like the respawn with full health after death, and keeping all your progress and items, but it's good it's there I guess as I can just load the game. The grain filter... I don't know. It definitely adds to the atmosphere which is great.

Yes I'm a nitpicker.. But the rest is fun! Now it's time to get my ass whooped again. Thank you again TC.

Beat the first boss and really got the hang of the combat but the fucking stalker enemy is truly frustrating. I'm trying to do a puzzle and it literally spawns next to me. I hate few things more than stalker enemies in games but this one is particularly stupid and unfortunately way too present.

Unless there's a mechanic to banish it that I'm overlooking, I warn anyone who likes the demo in advance. Game is awesome but this part sucks the enjoyment out of it.

I kinda agree. I now roll my eyes when I hear that sound of him spawning in. It is funny to see him whack other enemies though.
Perhaps he can be circumvented by killing spoilers. I'll save that for another playthrough.

Despite my criticism above, this game has its fangs in me hard. The learning curve is a bitch and the game loves to drop inputs but...it's fucking awesome.

The more I play, the more I think this is marketed a bit weird. It's more like a straight Survival Horror in a King's Field-ish wrapper. And the combat, despite the clunkiness, is actually satisfying and there's a surprising amount of weapons. Level design is complex and daunting as it should be imo.

I don't know, this is a really good game indie or not. This would be stone cold classic if it had come out on PS1 I think.

Hashassin Hashassin Spoiler alert regarding stalker

Found a way to banish his ass permanently

Nice. Yes the game is really pretty good. I figured there'd be a way since I was rereading some of the notes and journals. Just haven't found the thingamajig yet. I have a grand feeling I missed something, but that's all part of the first playthrough.

The combat is great. Blocking might be a bit too overpowered, and I'm feeling the same problems as shadow tower coming up as I'm drowning in consumables already. No I'm not abusing save points! Of which there are way too many. I guess that's why there are so many enemy spawns probably.

Same. I really haven't used shit and am mostly maxed out on everything in terms of mushrooms, talismans etc. I do the same in Souls games. I hoard like crazy so most shit I end up discovering doesn't mean much.

How many places have you seen? I'm running around in Tower 3 and it's killer.

Game is very cool but deeply unnerving. It honestly could've used some balancing, a few moments of respite from the overwhelmingly oppressive atmosphere.

I've played for an hour and I am exhausted.

Also in tower three. Have to find a bell hammer. And found the butsudan statue.
SPOILERS THANK YOU TAGS FOR NOT WORKING

But they now replace is with these other non killable enemies. What a kick in the dick..
At least they go down faster and stay down longer. By the way since I've upgraded my weapon bosses die very very very fast. I'm using the dao blade.[/SPOILER]

I really recommend turning the music down to like...60 or something. It's entirely too loud in the mix, becomes too much quickly and also drowns out enemy footsteps and so on. I also turned the voices down a lot.

But the game IS oppressive as hell. It's like everything filthy and aggressive in one game. It does have an area of relative respite once you get over the initial ass-reaming that is the first tower. Emphasis on relative...

I just tried the banishment talisman on them last night and they disappear for like a fucking minute. For a rare consumable. At least they're easy to just run around and away from. I just kick them and keep going which is kind of funny...kicking the shit out if a ghost.

Finished it and got the Platinum. It's rather short, ends abruptly and I had an issue here and there but this was a 9/10 for me. If this had come out on PS1, it'd a total classic I think.

Once you really wrap your head around the combat, it's really satisfying.

The awesome thing with this game is the devs are very approachable to the community and taking in all feedback and said they plan to add more content/modes as time goes on. NG+ hopefully and other optional new locations.

Wish it has a VR mode...

NG+ would be awesome because as it stands the amount of weapons is pretty useless lol. I mean I got the poison sword and cleaned the axe approximately five minutes before the final boss with no upgrade materials left anyway. Like I said it's still awesome, especially for essentially a one-man show, so it was fine. Anything extra, I'll absolutely play.

It's always depressing to see AAA studios with millions upon millions at their disposal not be able to make games half as engaging as some of these indie devs. Played Northern Journey last year and was blown away by what that guy achieved when I found out it was one dude.
