I beat HL2 recently, but when I look through the hint book that came with the collector's edition, I noticed a ton of monsters in there that I never even saw in the game. What's the deal with that? Did they have to take them out because of time restraints or is it that you have to play the game on a certain difficulty to see them?

They are seen briefly as you 'ride' by in the Citadel. You don't get to fight them.
