Half-Life 3 is in the Final Phase of Development – Rumour

And another one.

I sincerely hope it's not just another gimmicky VR entry. Alyx was good but my interest in current tech VR has once again passed and I would much prefer a conventional Valve FPS for the long awaited next Half-Life instalment.

Another temper of expectations is that whatever it is it has been made to run well and look good on a cut down 8gb RX 7600.

Yep I think Alyx was a great stepping stone to a proper HL3 FPS release. Doo eet

All any Half Life 3 needs to be is a good game. That's it. Not revolutionary. Good. A good game.

Valve wouldn't release a HL sequel without evolving the gameplay in some new way. They could have made half a dozen good HL sequels since Epi 3 but just making good games doesn't interest them, they want to move the needle and maybe even try to redefine the narrative driven FPS experience.

Agreed, that's why if this rumour is true it's so exciting - we know it should be something special.

This.
Gabe once said regarding Half Life 2 Ep3: "... couldn't figure out why doing Episode 3 was pushing anything forward."

If or when a Half Life 3 exists it will try to push boundaries. Valve has enough money coming in from Steam to be a developer relying on developed games for profit. But Half Life 3 would certainly sell their new system.

I want HL3 to be pushing hardware and especially physics, like liquid sims etc., that's not gonna happen on the weak steam machine hardware.

When I created this thread, I was hoping I'd redeem myself after the fiasco that the whole BlueBox thing proved to be :messenger_grinning_smiling::messenger_downcast_sweat:
I hope this one happens and I hope I can get gold for it :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:
Otherwise, I promise I'll never bother anyone with another controversial thread on GAF again :messenger_confounded:

Watch it be yet another VR game, that would be immediately ruin any kind of excitement for me. But it's not impossible.

All data mining have pointed out that it will be a flatscreen-only game so you guys can be happy, you've won.

Me on other hand? I'll pass. I can't bring myself to go back to rudimentarilly aiming what basically amounts to a mouse cursor on a screen, when aiming a (virtual) gun and reloading with my own hands is actually immersive.

Assuming it's HL3 I will be playing that on either a Steam Machine, if I'm getting one, or the next Xbox that is rumored to have Steam support too. I guess we'll find out next week what the game is.

Eh, non VR gaming isn't immersive now? Lol alright.

Half Life 3 as a Steam exclusive, optimized for the Steam Machine would be the definition of a 'killer app'. We'll see.

I suppose Source could still look decent enough, when running the game on much beefier hardware.

Half-Life 2 was a state-of-the-art graphical showcase though, and I'll be disappointed if the next one isn't.
