Is there a way in Halo 2 to get a list of games looking for players and join one? Because all I can manage apparently is to host a game and on my carppy upload it's really sucky ping-wise.. Or I'm doing something wrong..

Nope, you either host a game, join an existing game from your friend's list, or spin the wheel with optimatch, where it randomly chooses a map and game mode for you.
