Halo 2 Vista on W7

Ok, I got H2 a few months back, and realised I should play it. What should I do to get it working on 7 sin problemas?

Have you tried playing it? I think it should just work on anything higher than Vista. I mean it's not too literal on the VISTA ONLY...... :p

That being said, get something to up the FOV a bit. It's nauseating and it feels like you're zoomed in 24/7.

uk here bought my copy when I first built my new pc about 2 years back using win7beta, halo 2 has worked on my machine ever since without problems and i went to a full win7 release after the beta expired.

Does it have dedicated servers or is it locally hosted?

Both dedicated and peer hosted

Also I never had problems with Halo 2 Vista on Windows 7. There are some computers it has trouble with for some reason though.

The main issue is that FOV is like 30 in this game.

70

I was a big fan of the PC version of Halo 2. Mostly because i was a Halo 2 fan in general, but being able to play at 60fps in HD was pretty fun. Dont forget that you can use a wired 360 controller, and it will work just like the original with all the sticky aim and button layouts. I say that because the m/k was kind of a bummer.

I assume you have to buy a specific controller right? I tried connect my Dualshock before but it didn't turn out well

Yeah, you have to use a 360 controller to get full support. Almost all GFWL games support it, but only few are worth actually using (like Halo 2). I use a wired 360 controller, but you could buy the wireless receiver so you could use a wireless 360 controller.

I use a wired 360 controller on my xbox because i like the way it feels without the battery bulk on the back.

that seems to do the trick, i'll buy one as soon as I can

is there a Community Thread where we can organise matches?

Pretty sure it's more like 60

There is an FOV fix but the FOV is hardcoded into the maps so you have to use a hex editor and blah blah blah and the result you end up with warps the weapon model and looks absoloutely silly and like it's no longer pointing at the crosshair which is disorienting

Depends on if you're in 16:9 or 4:3

Halo 1 Xbox: 90 (only supported 4:3)
Halo 1 PC: 70 (still only supports 4:3, crops screen for widescreen)
Halo 2 Xbox: 60/70
Halo 3: 60 (70 in widescreen, 90 in splitscreen widescreen)
ODST: 70 (or close to it, I forget the exact number. Definitely higher than Halo 3 though)
Reach: 78

Either way, good luck getting a FOV changer to work. I've yet to get them to work on H2V.

Yup Don't think I've found one yet. Knowing our luck it would cause an automated ban trigger anyway. Am I the only one that would love to see 343 return to 90? That's my one complaint through the years is that the FOV shrunk. It just felt perfect in Halo.

My computer died a few months back, so i bought my first imac. I wont be able to get my win7 machine up and running till at least the fall. Im stuck only playing Team Fortress 2 in the meantime.

I picked the worst time to buy a mac, considering all the great PC games coming out. Battlefield 3...
