It appears that Halo 3 may be closer to fruition than many have feared: despite Bungie's refusal even to confirm that it is working on the next instalment of the blockbusting first-person shoot-em-up, stores in the US have begun displaying banners and furniture bearing the Halo 3 logo and the legends: "Coming 2006" and "Reserve yours today".
The news that US stores are taking pre-orders for Halo 3 will delight Xbox 360 owners hungry for blockbusting triple-A titles, and the game's release will undoubtedly drive sales of Microsoft's next-gen console, just as its predecessors shifted Xboxes. So it's tactically important for MS to get Halo 3 out as early as possible.


However pre-order campaigns often begin very early to lure you into parting with your lucre and they're no guarantee of a final release date at all. June the 1st has been bandied about as a launch date recently but US e-tailer GameStop, for example, have a provisional date of 03/10/06 (if we read those US date formats right) for Halo 3, but whether this is a true indication only time will tell.
Microsoft-owned developer Bungie has been uncharacteristically coy about Halo 3, but Bill Gates remarks suggesting that Halo 3 would launch concurrently against Sony's PlayStation 3 is about as close as anyone's got to naming an actual date.

For now, Xbox 360 owners will have to be content with playing Halo and Halo 2 for the original Xbox on their machines - the Xbox 360 can display both games in wide-screen at 720p resolution, with full-screen anti-aliasing. But with games like Gears of War also scheduled to arrive in 2006, things are looking rosy for Xbox 360-owning fps fans.

Stores do this for unannounced games all the time. It's just expected. Nothing confirmed.

Where is that quote from and do you really think a Halo game developed in 18 months will be up to the standards you expect?
 
Good job retailers! You will make everybody off into thinking it comes out in 2006, then when it's delayed, everybody will buy PS3's. Genius!
 
I thought the movie contract stated that it was to get support from the next game (i.e. a close release to Halo 3) and the movie isn't due out until 2007. There's still a long way to go.

they released it around the same time as Xbox / GCN to steal sales and remove from their thunder.

I wouldnt wait too long, there will only be 5-6 million copies of the limited edition.

this is not entirely true. no one knew it would be as monstrous as it turned out to be, but the press people had been raving about GTA3 since pretty much it was first shown. it was always known that the game would be pretty damn groundbreaking (as much as I hate it).

No they weren't, and no it wasn't.
 
The game will be announced next month sometime complete with real-time trailer and a press release. However, it will debut alongside the movie in 2007.

This is a fact. Don't ask for any sources because I can't tell you.

Bungie could literally make a halfassed Halo game, throw Halo 3 on it and the XBots will still gobble it up like nothing else and proclaim the game to be better than sex.

So True :lol I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Halo 3 was nothing more than the second half of Halo 2 with those features shown in that E3 video and the ATV and other vechiles. nothing more than that.

Maybe this will be the first, actually amazing one.

I'm not saying Halo is shit, I'm just saying everyone makes it out to be something it isn't.
 
With other, better looking Sci-Fi FPS games being abundant next gen (GoW, Killzone,GRAW,Dark Sector,I-8), will anyone care about Halo anymore?

Same applies for all camps with any big name exclusive, argument failed, fanboyism exposed. One day.
 
If MS doesn't have Halo 3 set for this Fall to offset the crazy amount of PS3 hype, they are monumentally stupid. Although I think the series is crap, many people seem to like it.

Oh, I was in Gamestop and Game Crazy today... They both asked me if I would like to preorder Halo3.
 
I'm very surprised that MS didn't release a teaser prior to the 360 launch to ramp up the real hype machine. That says an awful lot about the Bungie staff. I can't imaging MS wasn't badgering them for something, a logo, anything to drum up the swarm.
 
Jesus... can you imagine if Halo 3 DID launch alongside PS3? There'll be midnight madness events of epic proportions... and you just KNOW it's going to get ugly with Xbox fanboys and Sony fanboys right next to each other waiting for hours :lol
 
I'm happy that this isn't true: one more day without announcing the game, one more possibility that the game isn't rushed and the SP doesn't suck like Halo 2.
c'mon Bungie you need to raise the bar of the FPS genre again.

Halo 3 has been in development for over 2 years. While I don't think we'll see it in summer '06, it'll definitely be a holiday '06 title. Right when the PS3 launches.
 
BFD, I can reserve MGS4 on the Gamestop website too, that doesn't mean there's a campaign for it.

Your local FYE may have something up though, but since when are they a go to spot for games?
