Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

Does the current MP run off the Day 1 patch? Is it possible that the map could be in that if the current MP players don't have that patch?

I mean... there's clearly going to be a playlist update before launch, but I doubt that it'll bring any new maps with it. They'd want to have everything in there now to make a good impression on reviewers.

So wait, there's only 3 actual Warzone maps? So we have 7 forge maps, 3 smaller versions of existing maps, and only 11 actual developer tool made maps, 2 of which are remixes?

Does anyone actually know if the Assault variants are exactly the same layout wise, or is everyone jumping to conclusions?

I feel like WZ/Assault should just be in one playlist, would help alleviate the small map problem. They're probably putting a new map or two in by Christmas/Jan anyways.

Is the team size different between the two versions? Only reason I can imagine them not being combined.

No, i've cross-checked the names of the Assault variants and their Launch playlists they are the same.

They've said "monthly" updates to the game. Whether or not each month we see new maps is to be seen. They are free so hard to complain if the come out in November or December.

Almost identical. The skybox has changes, parts of the layout is different. Extra foggy on the snow map. It's smaller. Probably 2/3 size of normal warzone maps. For example the A.R.C. variant goes from central garage -> one of the building capture points -> base defense. So 1 of the two building cap points are missing along with the other base. They are not "sectioned off" just completely gone with a rock wall

No, same 12 v 12. Just smaller and less AI (no bosses, for example).

I'm confused. 343 said there would be 6 warzone maps. Technically, there are 6 but it's basically three maps that are split in two which makes "six maps"? Is that correct?

Warzone Assault maps are based off the three Warzone maps, with different areas sectioned off. In essence, they are still the same maps.

Yup, disappointing to say the least

There are 3 Warzone maps, in the Warzone playlist to you get the full maps of the 3. In the Warzone Assault playlist you get smaller versions of those 3 maps

No you guys don't get what I'm saying.
There are 6 different warzone maps. 343 decided they would use 3 for assault and 3 for normal warzone. Now you have the prerelease playlists that doesn't make that distinction so now you can have warzone AND assault on the same map. It is the same map in assault, not just a shorter version everyone just spawns at the bases insteadof at the end. Ay launch the other three maps will come into rotation. Atleast that's my guess from playing

Can somebody with early access please look up the maps in Custom Games?

Actually, forget it, since you can't play Warzone in Custom Games so that maps are probably not there.

No. There's Warzone maps, which are full-sized, and Warzone Assault maps, which seem to be those same maps with large chunks cut out of 'em to provide a more focused flow for the asymmetrical gametype.

...unless Ram here is right; I'm at work, haven't been able to watch any streams. Anybody got a good feel for the layouts yet?

No, the 3 Aasault maps right now have the names used in the playlist announcement.

Is there a reason for distinction between forge maps and developer tool maps? Is there a quality difference of some kind?

There's no other 3 maps at launch. "Dispatch," "Array," and "Summit" are all in the prelease rotation. Unless the launch playlists suddenly change, what the players are playing now are all the maps coming next Tuesday.

Wait, why wouldn't they have Steitzer in there? I don't get removing it.

What, you don't like Palmer droning in your ear?

Is there a reason for distinction between forge maps and developer tool maps? Is there a quality difference of some kind?
It would be fine if the forge maps looked different, but all the breakout maps look the exact same visually and Orion and Pegasus bring flashbacks of Reachs matchmaking made of grey on grey maps and nothing else.

I find it weird that they wouldn't have those other 3 maps in the rotation right now. It realeases on Tuesday so I would assume what's in there is what will have come release. Hopefully you're right.

WZ would be an audio overload if Steitzer was turned on. Wouldn't mind multikill call outs, but other than that, he needs to be off.

Yea. You are earning multi kills and skill medals so often that your ears would be bleeding half way into a match.

Summit has a different time of day and atmosphere from Stormbreak, but I don't know the layout is different.

Depends on how you define "layout"... like the buildings are the same, just its missing 2/5 buildings because the attacking team doesn't get a home base.

If it's really like you guys say, that's sad :P

It's more disappointing than sad. Like I'm still gonna play the shit out of warzone because it looks like fun and plus the matches are like 30 min each so they are investments. Like map count doesn't really effect how good a MOBA is. It needs to be good, balanced, and fun. The sandbox delivers on that. Quality >>> Quantity

A better way to do maps reveal would be to list all the maps, and list out the gamemodes playable on that mal. It just seems deceptive from a PR standpoint to say 6 when it is really just 3 maps with two different gamemodes playable on them.

The maps have different names I believe, but they're the same maps. The gamemodes thing would help though

Lol... Worst case ever. They should have announced 10 maps. And, as a surprise, make a statement for 10 other remix and Forge maps to come.

Didn't really love any of the maps from the beta - heard Plaza's great. Hopefully there will be some that shine brighter than the coal lamps from 4 and Reach.

I didn't really like the maps in the beta either. Always thought Midship was a bit over rated to be honest. I liked Fathom a lot when I got to play it.

The maps are what scares me the most about this game and could easily make people drop off and play other games (like COD) if they arent good. As i said before, 343 haven't exactly made memorable maps with 4 other than Haven.

And from the twitch feeds i saw yesterday, i dunno, im not crazy about the maps so far. They just make everything look the same. No identity or uniqueness.

The way things are going so far I would expect a healthy dose of forge maps

Thats what you get for free i guess.

Seems kind of dishonest to call that six maps. The map situation at launch has me concerned for DLC and what they consider to be a new/unique maps.

So getting matched against pro's isn't very fun. Not sure what 343 was thinking there, letting us base our reviews off a game where they've got the top 1% running around in a small pool of players.

Sorry if this has already been posted or OT, but has anyone heard from the local NYC shops re: early shipments? Wondering if I can grab this today or have to wait until Monday.

Yeah I'm noticing this, there's a huge skill gap in the games I'm watching.

Apparently, pros aren't allowed to play matchmaking for the next two hours for that reason. There's a few timeslots like that throughout the weekend

And not letting the general public play before release is kinda weird too. Press guys would find matches faster and the pool of players would be better in terms of skill.

Would love to know this as well if anyone in NYC managed to grab an early copy somewhere.

If 343 was smart they wouldn't let them play at all and let reviewers enjoy fair matches.
