Halo: Glasslands - New Halo Novel That Takes Place After Halo 3

All these stories of Karen Traviss are worrying me :(

While I haven't read any of her books, a lot of the criticism leveled against her by Star Wars Fans about the way she handled her characters, while out of place for a Star Wars novel, could actually work quite well in the Halo universe.

From what I understand the book is supposed to focus on Halsey, and during some 343i press event a while ago, Traviss' take on the character (a Dr. Mengele who has grown a conscience) really does seem to nail who Halsey is.

Ugh Karen Traviss isn't a very good writer.

Guess I'll be skipping this one...
Eric Nylund isn't exactly Dostoyevsky, himself. If I remember First Strike, he kept writing the past tense of dive as "dove" (which, unless everyone turned into a white feathered bird, isn't a word).

Don't. She's pretty good and added a lot to the Gears universe, which was pretty non-existent. As far as videogame books go hers are pretty decent.

I still need to read the latest Halo book.

Been reading a bit of Cryptum. I'm only a few pages in but it's already referenced The Librarian and Didact.
I assume these are the guys from the Halo 3 Terminals? (which I found interesting but didn't understand at all).

Yep. The Didact and The Librarian are from the Halo 3 Terminals. But if you want to talk about Cryptum, GAF has a own thread about it: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=417596 !SpoilerAlarm!

From the looks of it, 343 didn't have any say over how Bungie developed Reach.

Wrong by a large margin. That title belongs to Halo 2.
Edit:

These are strange criticisms with nothing about the actual story told by the book.

Well I haven't read it yet :P Just my first impressions. £15 for a paperback is kinda insane which meant that I only got it because it was part of a 3 for 2 deal. And then flipping through it the fontsize is just huge, even my wife laughed at it, saying it was even bigger than her Sookie books. But what really surprised me was what that meant for the length. I'm used to Greg Bear books being very long - with a normal font size this would only be pushing 200 pages I'd guess.

So those criticisms aren't that weird really, exorbitant price and it'll feel like I'm reading a kids book. I guess at least it'll be a real page turner though (becuase there are only about 20 words to a page, ba dum tish!)

I'm sure I'll enjoy the book itself though, I love me some Halo and Greg Bear.
