Exactly. Halo is pretty much at its best when completely insane things happen (one of the reasons I enjoy BTB), and MLG rules take every random factor out of the game, making the game incredibly tedious, for me at least. I will admit MLG settings separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of skill most of the time, but the barebones core of the style turns me off quite a bit

They really should consider consolidated playlists for 4, would lead to better overall matching (more to choose from) and less quitters.
I would have thought that it would lead to increased quitting due to people not getting the gametypes that they wanted. At least with more playlists everyone has somewhere to go to play what they want (in theory... I mean we still don't have that race playlist :/ ). Don't get me wrong I would like better skill matching and faster search times, but I don't know that consolidating playlists would result in fewer quitters.

Look how many different playlists there are right now. Tell me those can't be whittled down. And the reason people don't get what they want has more to do with shit ass multiplayer management and not updating based on voting trends.
I definitely agree with you - there is a ridiculous number of slayer playlists that could be consolidated easily and effectively. I wish that 343 did an overhaul of the playlists, giving us fewer playlists as it is obvious that the current population can't sustain so many lists.

Honestly I don't think maps and gametypes should be coupled either. There should be a map vote. And then a gametype vote. Or vice versa, but the pairings is another limitation. Sometimes I don't want to play the same map 3 times in a row but I want to play Team Slayer DMRs.

Yea no. SWAT is competitive as shit at levels 48-50 in H3. I could name about twenty five players just dominating up there.
Fyre, I dig you and all, but that's ignorant as shit. Comparing SWAT to Living Dead is one of the dumber comparisons I've seen in this forum and I've seen some lame stuff. Living Dead is a social playlist you go into to play a stupid game where SWAT can actually be awfully tactical and team oriented depending on how far you work up.
First FFA is casual and now SWAT? Mister Grifball has some splainin' to do.

Went to play Social Slayer with someone in Halo 3 the other day. Used one of my silver tags to play with them as to not pull in high level dudes. They hadn't really played multi before. Like, two three games? First game, matched against a party that had a guy with 2400 Social Slayer EXP. Either he's that bad and somehow has just played long enough to get that, or hey it's the same Trueskill!
Speaking of which, I'm thinking of doing a continous single run in both ODST and Halo 3's campaigns so that they show up as my final game history for Bungie.net. Maybe get the rest of the ODST firefight points skulls unlocked before Bungie.net freezes as well.
I was tempted to go for the last ODST Skull but it looks like it would be literally 5 hours + gameplay (in one sitting)?

My approach to playlists in any Halo would be:
Ranked:
-Team Slayer
-Team objective (2-flag CTF, one flag, one bomb, KotH, Oddball, neutral bomb, Assault)
-SWAT
-Snipers
-MLG
Social:
-Team slayer (5v5)
-BTB (Slayer, 2-flag CTF, one flag, neutral bomb, assault, one bomb, territories)
-Multi Team (2v2v2v2 with slayer, oddball and KotH)
-Invasion
-DLC (6v6, same setup as BTB)
-Skirmish (8 player FFA with objective gametypes like KotH, Oddball, Juggernaut)
Cooperative:
-Campaign (4 player co-op)
-Firefight doubles
-Firefight classic (survive for as long as possible)
-Firefight arcade (fun, wacky gametypes for one set)
Weekend double exp:
-Infection
-Griffball
-Action Sack
-Rocket Race
-.....
So that would be 12 competitive multiplayer playlists at any given time.
