Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Yeah, the Flood sucks, everyone can skip it, because it is a bad book.

Fall of Reach is still my favorite, just because of how it details the growth of the Spartan II's. Ghosts of Onyx is also really good, as is Contact Harvest. First Strike is interesting just as a bridge between Halo 1 and 2. Cole Protocol has some interesting spots, but the pacing is a total mess, and ultimately it doesn't have much to say.
Holy crap, I had totally forgotten that the Cole Protocol even existed, and I read it :lol I liked Buckell's story in Evolutions quite a lot too, which makes me wonder what went wrong with The Cole Protocol. It was just... :/

So did anyone else notice that the Beta is up on the Web Marketplace now?

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf0004-0000-4000-8000-00004d530877

Doesn't work or anything, and from a guy who actually did manage to download it, doesn't work for him either. Nice to see the size of it though.

Yea you're late a bunch of pages but thanks for the reminder. I remember now that I have to clear out room on my 20 13gb hard drive for tomorrow. Good bye Bad Company 2 Demo.

I wouldn't say Cole Protocol was a bad book, I mean, it's a thousand times more enjoyable than the Flood. It's just... really forgettable, yeah.

Haters be hatin' in full force tonight. It has been a number of years since I read it, but The Flood didn't strike me as particularly bad.
I'm not a hater, I just thought it was an awful read. If I had to compare it to something, I'd compare it to these fantasy books about dragons and people I read when I was in third grade.

It's fine if you like it -- I just couldn't ever seriously let someone else read it, let alone recommend it.

My issue with the Flood is it's so damn analytical. There's no style to the writing, and that makes it so horrifically boring to read. It somehow managed to make all the big exciting firefights in Halo 1 seem boring and lifeless.

I'm happy with the fact that there's going to be a sequel. =)
Not really sure where they'll take it.

I mean, they're trapped in the Dyson sphere with no way for the Covenant to enter, and even if they do make it out, the war will be over at that point. I guess there's the possibility of other dudes being inside that sphere, but there doesn't seem to be a logical continuation. Oh well, whatever it is I'll be happy to get more of Blue Team

Contact Harvest is the best book, I some how scored a copy signed by Staten without ever actually meeting him. :lol

Contact Harvest is good once it goes going, but it starts extremely slow. My favorite book is definitely Ghosts of Onyx, with Fall of Reach being right up there as a close second.

It could take place in the "next" events that the Halo universe goes through. After the end of Halo 3. I mean Master Chief is obviously about to embark on some new adventure in the ending after the credits of Halo 3. It could tie into that even. They could take it in any direction. Maybe there's Forerunners in the dyson sphere for all we know?

Fall of Reach was definitely great. It's Ender's Game + Halo. What's not to like? First Strike just seemed too odd for me to really follow it.

SPOILARS

Man I really can't imagine the Halo universe having a "Next Phase". Just doesn't seem right :lol

Kinda like how in all the Star Wars EU stuff, the character keep having adventures and fighting wars, and then you hear Chewbacca gets crushed by a moon and you're like this is not Star Wars what have you DONE

Lots of talented people at 343 though, so hopefully they can avoid that.

I quite liked Contact Harvest, Staten seemed more keen on exploring characters and their communities. I can't be the only one who liked the Grunt Deacon & Lighter Than Some story thread! :P

Halo Reach, how appropriately named. Halo Reach Around, another chance for Microsoft to molest its consumers with customer unfriendly business practices. KS3 will blow this out the water. PS3 fanboy forever, Elpresador king of valid opinions!

ok I lie, Reach is bringing back the high doses of nostalgia from previous halo games

Pssshh, plebeians like myself have to participate in every giveaway we can find!
When they say, "we'll post the codes but leave out a character". That's when they're laughing on their Yacht, saying "we got you bitches".

Speaking of books, I'm dying to tear into that Halsey journal already - the preview glances from the marketing material look beautiful and filled with win.
