Halo: Reach Beta Thread

It happens with age, Wu. Not much you can do about it now. :P
I'm waiting for "Halo Reach Controller: Arthritis Edition", with gel-pack sides.
Wouldn't help, really; more a matter of old-brain-itis, not joint issues. Get off my lawn.

Edit: k/d with plasma launcher is 4. Like, 4.0. Why does no one use this?

I picked it up first time i played swordbase by accident, tried to use it but the charge timer totally caught me offguard when I ran into my first opponent, led to my quick demise. Never bothered with it again :lol

What? How is Halo 3's system worse?
The system they had in place at launch was. It wasn't who meleed first; even if someone meleed a second later it would only register the melee from the person with the most health. It was ridiculous to run in, melee, and have it do nothing and be killed instead.

Are you telling me the DMR is only a one shot kill(head shot) in SWAT only?
Don't remember playing SWAT in H2 or H3.
What's your point/question?

DMR is a 5 shot kill weapon with shields.
In SWAT (popular hardcore gametype in H3, custom gametype in H2) you have no shields.

I feel like I'm playing the Halo 3 MP beta again but with new gun models, however this could be attributed to the fact that one of the only maps is virtually the same map that you mostly played in the Halo 3 beta. I don't know, it's good and I realize it's just a beta, I was just hoping for some "newness."

Is that seriously all it took?:lol`

You should try and go play halo 3 right now, then come back to the reach beta again, you will feel the "newness". Trust me.

There is definitely repetition and remnants of High Ground in Powerhouse. But both maps play considerably different with Powerhouse being much better.

Newness comes on the 7th and 14th.

Really just a point that I'M AN IDIOT.
Not a SWAT vet so I assumed the DMR was that powerful in all gametypes so I bitched about it for 2 days being too powerful.:lol

Even in Halo Reach it does not matter who melees first all that matters is who as the most shields left. Even if someone has one bar of the shield left a melee will not kill them, to me that is broken.

Good thing it's only the beta then and pretty much everyone are saying it should be changed. Seems like bungie would take the feedback in their beta no?

Yes I am mad this game is garbage overall and not the best that Bungie can do. Terrible Bungie just terrible

And there are people that love it and couldnt be happier. TIme to find another game mate.

Trust me, I've played enough Halo 3 to realize the differences, and they are there. It's just that when playing the Reach beta I just feel a swoop of deja vu rather than feeling like, hey, this was worth the wait! It is improved though, and I like it, I just wish there were more... I guess original maps to test out.

Hey guys, Juices asked me to post that's he's got an extra code. He's watching the thread so post if you'd like it. Now he hasn't specified how he'll select who to give it to so don't get mad if he chooses someone at random.

By design, won't fix. Seriously though, how can something that's by design be broken? It works exactly as intended. That you don't like it does not mean it's broken. It's different, but I think the difference is a good one and make most CQC battles have a satisfactory outcome.

No thats the proper way of doing it, knock shields out, then take out health.
you do realize this is not the final product.

Am I correct in thinking that in the final game, our multiplayer character customization, including color and armor choices, will carry over to our singleplayer character?

Yep. Pretty cool.

Actually, I have found that being the first to melee is the most important.

Yup, it carries right over. That shot from the cinematic where Noble 6 is holding the helmet, and puts it on? It'll be whatever helmet you're rocking in MP.

The new melee system is fine, it just reduces the amount of scenarios where it's beneficial to use it. And those scenarios are basically when you have no ammo or the guy is not facing you. There is now no reason to rush for a whack. So your solution is simple - Don't Melee!

Couple that with the fact that the Pistol trumps the AR now. If anything, the range on the pistol needs to be taken down or extended a shot. I should not be able to 5-shot someone for the kill, then zoom in and pick up a shot across the map with the Pistol. Its so much fun but I makes the AR obsolete.

Headhunter mode is legit, a lot more strategic then what is seen at first glance.
I love headhunter, it may feel random but as long as you hunt down the people with 3+ skulls it's great fun, especially the mad panic to cap 10 skulls. I actually scored no skulls last night because I was aiming for an instant 10, didn't work as planned :lol

That is seriously awesome! The Covenant will fear the wrath of my pink spartan!

I will say that the menu music is the most badass ever.

It is. I thought that these guys that hacked the beta would've gotten the music.

I looked everywhere, but can't find it =\

Anyone?

I highly recommend everyone follows Juices on Twitter, by the way. It's fantastic - he's just venting into open space with no response.

Hi,

I would very much appreciate a code if Juices could spare one. I've been following this thread as a halo fan and it's been torture hearing everything without being able to play =(

Bloom, nades, and melee seem to be the biggest and most consistent complaints so far. IMO, this is due to the fact that if you played a lot of Halo 3, and jump into Reach and attempt to play it like Halo 3, you are going to get your ass kicked mostly due to the bloom, nades, and melee changes. Just because you suck at Reach doesn't mean Reach sucks. Learn how to play the game and then complain if you still don't like it.

Also, btw, no one gives a shit whether or not you are going to buy Reach or continue to play online gaming, so please stop whining as if anyone cares.

Eh, I don't think it's a very good design to basically reward rushing towards the other guy without even bothering shooting him.

They don't need to make it as easy to one hit melee someone to death as it was in halo 3, but I really think being able to one hit melee someone if they have something like 20% shield left, would massively improve melee combat.

Sorry if this has been asked before...but has the sword been nerfed?

Twice today I melee'd a sword attacker in mid-lunge and stopped the kill. I also had it done to me.

If it's intended, it is awesome.

Any useful tips for the DMR. I've been using it in the same scenarios as the Halo 3 BR just to get a feel but I haven't been able to do as good shit. I'll get a few distance kills picking off guys but at a little over midrange I'm having problems with guys closing the distance and beating me. With the BR I was able to just continue my assult and win over an AR as they charged as long as I got a hit or two in first. Do I suck or am I not supposed to win in this situation as easily?

If something is rendered is it possible to save it to your PC?
Yeah, it should give you the option to download it once it's rendered.
