Halo: Reach Beta Thread

has bungie mentioned if in the retail game portions of the invasion maps will be used for other game modes?

Forgive me then, but it did seem like you were belittling his opinion. He's not the only who doesn't like it that much. I'm not particularly fond of:

- The spawn times and spawn locations, particularly for elites.
- The original spawning weapons for elite
- Invasion slayer (6 vs 6 seems a little low for player count and you don't use enough of the map)
The spawn locations encourage one of your fire team to stay alive and play tactically. This is a good thing. The spawn times are pretty damn short. There's a Nerfle not far from where you spawn initially, if you're spawning in view of the ship, and often you spawn to one side, where you can easily sneak in. There are additional weapons lying around, including DMRs you can snag before the Spartans set eyes on you, if you're crafty. Plus, you know, take their weapons. As soon as Phase 2 kicks in, you have Nerfle whenever you want it.

Invasion Slayer will be 8v8 in the full game.

Edit: also, without being snarky, all three of the Elite spawning weapons are pretty decent if you engage on the right terms.

Regular Invasion won't be 8v8 though? :(

Couple of bugs: Host migration right off the bat, left me with no AA after recovering. Also got the stupid suicide = betrayal thing. And also scored a betrayal from tank round despite getting a clean kill too.

First game of Invasion and I played as a spartan and owned those damn elites. This is the gametype that feels like the old Halo. So fun picking off those elites with the DMR.

I'm starting to come around on Invasion. A little bit of teamwork goes a long way for the Elites, and Active Camo gives them something over the Spartans which works out pretty well in the beginning. And the end of Tier 3 is always crazy. And playing as a Spartan has always been fun, even when being on the losing end.

To the best of my knowledge, the Invasion playlist as a whole will be 8v8 in the retail game.

I'm pretty sure the final game is 6v6 also. But they'll be two rounds so you play once as each side.

How do they determine best squad?

My squad:
Me - 23 kills, 12 assists, 9 deaths, 35 medals
Friend - 19 kills, 8 assists, 15 deaths, 20 medals

Their squad:
23 kills, 11 assists, 15 deaths, 26 medals
12 kills, 3 assists, 12 deaths, 11 medals

We were both Covenant squads and we won:lol

Yeah. Should really start hitting "preview post" instead of "submit reply" automatically.

Saw someone ask about the whole armor lock/vehicles thing earlier. There are two different things that will happen if you try and run a guy over in armor lock. The first and most likely is that you will hit him and it will act just like you ran into a rock. You bounce off of him and can keep driving. The second being that if his emp blast gets released if you are near/hit him your vehicle becomes immobilized. You can still use the guns on said vehicle but you can not drive it anymore.

I've noticed people rarely use the vehicles in Invasion until one person starts using one. There wasn't a single vehicle being used until I finally went in the tank as a Spartan or the Ghost as an Elite. Really enjoying this mode. I do wish it was a little longer though.

And one question. Is the little opening on the left side of the wall where the Elite's can go through with vehicles the only opening? It seems a little unfair for my Banshee to constantly get destroyed if a tank or spartan laser is watching the area. I'd like to be able to fly in to the battle from above.

INVASION! I have no clue wtf was going on, but it was fun.

Splattering someone or getting splattered, feels as empty as melee though, no feedback, I think it's missing rumble and a more satisfying thud sound effect.

And boosting with the banshee or ghost felt empty too. Lacking rumble, speed or whatever made boosting in the previous games feel awesome.

Oh man im really sorry Ghal, Dax, Dani, Gui, Autumn and Starlit - I heard gunfire and a dude said were killing eachother and I started playing. I didnt realise it was a false shout, sorry guys! I feel like such a idiot for killing people.

After you all quit it was just us Elites left in the game, and it didnt end, bit of a weird bug that. Again sorry though!

:lol we have claims that both Spartans and Elites are OP'd.

Invasion is THE multiplayer mode for me now.

I love the new banshee and the reduced power of the lazah. I actually survived a laser shot. However, afterward I couldn't do the manuevers.

Oh and if a scorpion is messing up your team, Boba Fett over that fucker and hit him with plasma charge. I actually took out a tank with some Professional Piping.

2 games in, invasion feels weird...disappointing so far. Vehicles don't feel as weighty to me...and it's far too easy to kill them.

6v6 is too few players, really. Especially on a map of that size.

That, and the fact that games are often over way too quickly are my main problems with Invasion.

Invasion would be a lot more fun if it was an active assault. Like picking up and planting a bomb, then defending it until it goes off to open the gate. Not sitting in a zone for 20 seconds to open a gate. They can even keep the zone standing if it was just moved. As it is it's just a long platform with 2 spots to stand in to open the gate. Seperate them to make the teams divide and become more active.

I LOVE INVASION! Both kinds!

One gripe... the Tank seems to be the end all be all for the Spartans in the objective type. I had a game where they just parked the tank near the scaffolding and would obliterate anyone who got near the core.

Of course I have no idea where the plasma launcher or Spartan Laser is on the map, so that might have helped.

Oh and I got a sweet vid of me denying someone a Banshe with an assassination.

I thought invasion would allow people to play both sides in one game. Like two seperate rounds.

Something that NEEDS to be in the final game.

All the good anti vehicle shit appears in the main spawn point. Look around for it, you'll find some stuf like plasma launchers and proton packs.

-edit- Main spawn of second tier

If I can get a killtacular with it, it needs nerfing.
They were all bunched up, they deserved it :lol

It would make games VERY long.. I wouldn't mind it but if one or two players quit and you're stuck with a reduced team for a 20 minute game.. Fun times.

I've only played 2 games of Invasion (one normal, one slayer) and I love it. So chaotic, so fun.

I've spawned off cliffs, not been able to spawn at all, have had it say waiting to spawn in an empty area for like 10 seconds, etc. The game goes to a "Please wait.." or w/e black screen at least twice a game.

Honestly it feels like a cluster fuck. When it works it's awesome, but otherwise... -_-

Played another game and I have more complaints.

1. Boneyard is ugly. Yea yea big map...see BC2

2. The games are over too quickly and they don't swap sides once completed...see BC2

3. Vehicles are deathtraps and the map is poorly designed for vehicle usage...too much shit lying around. Vehicles get funneled through small gates/passageways. The Banshee can't hardly fly anywhere and doesn't seem to have the fuel rod missile equiped. Pro pipe rounds disable vehicles....you can choose to spawn with a pro pipe...figure that one out.

4. Elites spawn with swords which eventually leaves everyone with swords.

5. BTB spanks the shit out of this mode. Please tell me this hasn't officially replaced classic Big Team.

Agree on all accounts save for the Banshee stuff.

While I find Invasion a lot of fun, the only 2 games I have had to play as an Elite have been horrible, Tier 1 should allow you to use something other than the AR especially on such a big map.

That being said I love the vehicles, the only one which seems a bit odd is the Banshee, and thats only because of the perspective shift when barrel rolling.

My new favorite thing about Invasion. Half the Covie team quitting right off the bat. Thanks assholes.

I don't think I played a single team game last night without at least one person quiting. It seems rampant in the Beta.

Ran into a few issues on my first games of Invasion.

The first two are spawn issues. In the first one, I die, and then respawn right into the same firefight, in line of sight of an Elite who has a grenade en route to my feet.

In this one, I spawn within melee distance of two Elites. I was so surprised I briefly thought I was on their team.

I thought I'd unlocked this territory, which is why I jumped out of it - the bar was filled for about one and a half seconds before I left (screen taken one second before I jumped out). Someone else on my team said you have to stay in the territory a few seconds after the bar is filled before the next phase will actually unlock. It was my first game so I wasn't sure what the signal was, so I was just focused on the meter. Wish it were in sync with the unlock.

This one was a melee problem. I don't know if it was lag, or if melee works differently when it's Elites vs. Spartans, but I landed one square on this guy's back but all it did was pop the shields. I thought he was dead, and didn't realize he wasn't until my fireteam buddy yelled at me to watch out. I took a first person screenshot of me landing the blow square on his back, but the screenshot didn't transfer.

I had multiple spawns that took over 20 seconds, and not because I was trying to spawn on my fire team buddy; I had a location picked and it just sat there. Didn't take a film of those, though.

Time penalty please. Something like Gears 2 did (15 minutes was it?)

I say take it a step further and do day-bans from matchmaking if you quit more than X times a day (maybe 10). An pop up a messages that says Don't want to play the game? Fine. Then don't play.

Well that's because nobody cares because nothing you do in it will be carried over into the real Reach (unless that's what urk has been hinting about). There should have been some sort of time penalty or something implemented to keep people from quitting.

Sweet. Got a link, and maybe a film?

Got one. Both teams spawned with ARs and couldn't choose loadouts until next tier. Also for a little bit I couldn't spawn in the normal area, just on my teammate.

Loading in file share now.

Invasion has made me realized my two favorite weapons in all Halo games: the DMR and the Pro Pipe.

The DMR is, in fact, the REdeemer. It is awesome.

You and I had 50 of the teams 100 kills in that game. I think that bug should happen more often :lol
