Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Look, over there, shiny thing!

I have some formal discussions to have with some media folks still - I can't have this thread turn into our first official statement - but I'll be back in here later to at least speak our peace.

Nobody should get too spun up though, everything will be ok. (but the initial reaction is totally understandable and as predicted)

Basically, they made a deal with the devil, but it's a good deal, honest~

Activision the corporate entity goes against everything Bungie stands for as a developer. It's bad news, period. I predict this will end with lawsuits and regret years from now.

Please don't make me like Activision.

I get back from taking a final and Bungie is now in league with the evil empire know as Activsion?

Strange days my friends, Strange days.

Real talk I came to GAF to read some more beta impressions before class and BAM..i I read the terrible news. Now my whole mood has changed.

I really really fucking despise Activision and now if I want to buy a Bungie game part of my money will go to them.

I almost would've rather Bungie signed a 10 year exclusive deal with Sony. I'd feel much better.

*sigh*

:/

Because Activision is known for honoring all of their deals.

Just do a search of "activision" on kotaku and read the first few pages. Tell me this whole affair will end with everyone happy.

I'm not saying this isn't a bad news (I agree that it is a bad news), just that it isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Everyone is acting like Bungie has sold itself to Activision or something.

I love the idea that Activision is hurting the industry and buying $150 Cheaply produced (Un)Limited Editions of games doesn't have a similar effect.

When Mr. Kotick inquires, "Where the devil are my slippers", people get beat up and dumped in the street.
I think my original comparison to Jane Eyre is more apt. Where Bungie take on the role of Jane, Activision play Mr Rochester, and Infinity Ward have a bit part as the demented wife in the attic.

And you'll get it. Later today. Most people won't. So calm down.

While I think the Legendary Edition of Reach is pretty cool and valuable as these things go, I couldn't agree more.

Thanks, Brian. I know Bungie isn't stupid enough to go into a deal with Activision unless they knew what they were doing, given all that has happened lately.

Mate, you do realise that it's a press release that Activision put out? It amazes me that people still trust them after what they did to Infinity Ward.

Just watching the video and seeing Harold Ryan reading off the press release for all of 10 seconds gives me bad vibes.

I'm not going to lie, this is more than a tad shocking. Today should be an interesting day..

For the shock we all went through, how about some compensation? F&F for all! Oh, if only..
:lol

Right, because the annualized, assembly line bludgeoning of every title and the shitty way they treat their developers - and customers - should be compared to such.

I agree that the LE trend is a bad one. But these are not the same.

Control of IP/destruction of a great studio != $150 strongly profit-based box sets

You're comparing two things on a very different scale.

I just hope you guys are protecting your bollocks. Bungie seems like class people and I would hate to see you get screwed over by a (supposed) corporate monster. That being said, keep on bringing the world class software that Bungie is famous for.

(Holds out a glass of orange juice in sympathy)

Ah, well. Soon, we will have beta.

But basically, Activision gets publishing control of one new IP for the next 10 years.

Granted, Activision's pumping out of games and near extortion of DLC means that this is cause for some concern, but it's not like they've gained total direction/control of Bungie as a company.

I don't trust Activision, I trust Bungie. I trust that Bungie knows what they are doing.

You're comparing two things on a very different scale.

One thing you have control over, the other you do not.
The end result is the same, it's a cash grab. You voluntarily participate in one.

:lol Sorry. I haven't gotten my F&F code yet. I'll update the thread when my stream goes live. :)

edit: I just made you a mod in my channel btw :D

Where did this rumour of the F&F codes coming out at a stupidly early time of the morning come from? :lol

Just to clarify I was referring to IW, not Bungie. Bungie will be okay, I know that much.

I'm not sure what your point is, are you equating Activision's previous actions to MS's $150 profit-boxes?
Activision are the worst publisher when it comes to selfish, money grabbing stupidity in the eyes of the hardcore right now.
The $150 boxes don't compare. At all.

Guys, REACH will still be amazing and whatever comes next from Bungie will still be amazing. Quit crying.
Most people in this thread agree that Bungie's games are great and will still be great.
Doesn't mean we have to be happy about Activision, especially right now.

How long are you planning on streaming today? I am not feeling good about my beta prospects so I want as much footage as I can get today.

Go check out the rendered films on the Reach Beta section on Bnet - tons of footage up there already and tons more to come.

How's Bungie going to achieve world domination under a publisher that fires people instead of paying contractual bonuses?

They are using Activision to get to Blizzard. Soon it will be BungieBlizzard and the Halo MMO will be reborn!!!
