Halo: Reach Beta Thread

OK I havent caught up so sorry if this is covered. I am an expert zone member and I took the quiz. When i went to redeem, the link is broken. is this for everyone else? Also, is it F&F?

It probably means they've run out of the codes that were set aside for Gamestop employees.

Man! Geoff posted a code, I'm trying to get the Facebook and Twitter codes, and the Xbox.Com redeem code site is "500-Server Error". SURELY THIS MUST BE A HOSTILE GAF TAKEOVER? Wait, GAF is 505...

Shacknews code winners are being randomly selected and Shackmessaged (our PM system).

Keep an eye out at http://www.shacknews.com and good luck!

Seems like I got nothing =\

Well that was my last hope. I'm out of this thread. The begging and the everyone getting codes is making things worse =\

Have fun with Reach guys. Represent! :D

thanks. :'(. Im a legit user of the site.. it will suck if I get screwed out of a code..

Sorry man, I only lucked into checking about 5 mins before shit hit the fan. Usually when expertzone breaks it gets fixed in five to six hours. I'd check back this evening.

Jumping in Halo has always been fun. Decent height, and a smooth gliding feeling on the way down from peak. In Reach, you have what feels like the shortest jump in the series, and instead of a smooth rise and fall it feels like I'm under a soft ceiling. Several times I honestly thought I was stuck under something: it feels like I hit something and then drop down fast, distance truncated. It's not fun.
Oddly enough, I feel the exact opposite, to the point of the "floaty" gravity and soft-landing of the Spartans being a consistent problem for me in the context of grenades, corpses and other objects with simulated weight in Halo 3. While you say "this doesn't feel like Halo" that's honestly why I'm interested in checking it out, same goes for the overarching mechanics of AA's and loadouts.

We're still sending them out!

It's all by hand, people!

I know the fans might be disappointed with this, but i'm sighing a sigh of relief. The bunny hopping in h3 made me roll my eyes. I'm a superman in a space suit, not buzz lightyear in space. There shouldn't be a disconnect from the way the physics work, the way you move and the way you jump...it's all one reality.

That kind of little change carries through to the movement and gun play. None of the guns felt powerful or fun to shoot, and I had a hard time telling when I was landing shots. I still haven't put my finger on why, but shooting someone in the Halo games has always had this really strong feedback loop where I felt the shots landing. In Reach, that's not there. I shoot, the guy falls down, move on to the next one.

I wish I could crystallize it better, but it just doesn't feel like Halo. It looks like Halo, has the best menu and interface I've seen (though the CTF UI is really confusing), but if the exact gameplay and controls were mapped onto a different looking game, I would not think it was Halo. And I love Halo because of how it feels to play. This thing feels alien to me.

Maybe I'll get used to it and learn to love this other, new game that's called Halo but doesn't feel like it. I hope so. But I'm honestly just in a state of shock at how the game plays. This ain't Halo.

Damn dude stop getting me so hard. This is sounding so good. Floaty jumping gone, thank god.

Do you want to know what hell is?

Receiving an early Halo Reach beta code and not being able to use it because you're stuck at work for 6 more hours.
No. At least you know that in 6 hours you will be playing it. I've been here for hours, and still don't know if I'll get a code or not.

The jumping is something that scared me, I need to play it before I can judge it but if your right, im going to be dissapointed. If Bungie made Halo play more smooth buy gutting out its character I will be upset.

I see a lot of people who dont play Halo showing happiness at what you posted and it saddens me, if Bungie are targetting the non Halo playing audiance while cutting off the hardcore fans I will be dissapointed. Not saying this is the case, but I need to try it before im convinced.

You were given the Beta early in exchange for positive impressions.

Please revise your post.

Fuck, the helmet killed my last pet after he wore it for so long. I can't even complete that contest.

That... would make some of my friends cry to hear. And not about the code part either.

Well, my friend messaged me saying he got a couple of codes and, go figure, he got them through ExpertZone. Could I get in trouble for redeeming it? Anybody know? Not worth getting my GT banned:lol

He can give me one code :)

Missed out on the last Facebook code because the Redeem Code page on Xbox.Com is down. Have to run to the bank real quick and then make it back in time for the next Twitter code. Or maybe someone that's part of the HaloGAF will make my dreams come true and send me a PM by the time I get back.

I kind of wish beta's were set in stone for dates instead of throwing out codes, it's so annoying and random, you would think they would want to keep the fans happy!
