Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Hm, are we not allowed to? I will just see it on monday and I like to hear all impressions, about everything. That is why I am lurking this thread. And maybe the talk was about "image richness" which I think is absent in Halo games. It feels empty. I love the colors and lighting but I always have the feeling that there is something missing on the screen. Can not describe it better.

MW2 is more pleasing to the eye in my opinion. Maybe if Reach ditched some of the motion blur, upped the frame rate, and lost the jaggies I'd think otherwise.

In Halo games? As long as the style is visually appealing, I never notice the graphics in a competitive online FPS game. Especially one as fast paced as Halo. If you really want input on graphics, there are numerous streams of people playing live, rendered clips that folks here have provided, and countless videos on press websites to get indulged in the graphics.

I think they're lacking overall, but I always liked Halo's look and style so it has no real effect on me.

I love oddball, always have since halo 1, and it shows in Reach :D

My first game of headhunter was surprisingly decent. Looking forward to playing more of FFA until the Team Slayer playlist goes up.

To be fair, MW2 isn't jag free either, They both run sub-hd. I can't recall if MW2 has MSAA or not.

All those engines are jazzed up. Fact is , progressive FPSes with sequels, upgrade their engines. Why fix what ain't broke by using a new engine in an FPS sequel, and for a AAA FPS with an already delicate balance of all things? :lol

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Splinter Cell still running of the Unreal Engine 2?

Old engines can gain new tech.
 
quick question. When I insert the ODST campaign disc, the only option related to the beta I get is to preview the beta, not to play or insert a beta code. Is that normal?

God damn I love the pLasma Launcher :D My #1 TOD. Teams on 1-flag CTF never seem to understand that they shouldn't cross the bridge between bases when I'm five floors above, staring at it with a gun that shoots sticky grenades.

True, but the main thing for me, like Wispy said, is the 60fps. Makes everything so smooth and the jaggies less noticeable.

Reach's visuals are good, but could be and probably will be better come final release. I'm loving it so far and have already played 7 hours.

Going out on a limb here and just completely guessing, but since pull is a term used when skeet shooting with a shotgun, maybe try killing a jetpacker with that. Just a thought.

Yeah, I remember seeing this on the Beta Trailer. But I haven't seen it in the Beta. I know I've killed my fair share of Jetpackers mid-flight. One time i specifically recall taking one out with the pistol, just like the trailer. Has anyone gotten it? Link to bungie.net profile if so please. :D

Maybe the Pull medal is glitched?

Hydranock I feel for you man, on another forum someone posted that the people who got the email about the code for playing Halo 2 should get theyre codes soon, of course the guy might have been making stuff up but ill be sure to let you know if I get it before Monday!

As much as I dont enjoy reticule bloom, just 5 shotting people with the Pistol is amazing, I think I have 200 more Pistol kills than anything else, its like the only weapon I really ever use. Of course I spend more time jetpacking around staring at the map than killing but meh, Pistol is my favorite weapon so far.

... Bungie is still giving out a few FnF codes. If I was to somehow get my hands on one of them, how would I enter the code? I know it's open to everyone on monday. Does anyone have some useful advice?

Open the Xbox guide, go to redeem code.

I also noticed that if you play Headhunter on Powerhouse and the scoring zone moves to the water pit, skulls can be on the scoring zone. Well not on the zone to be precise, but under it. Normally they would disappear, wouldn't they?

The fastest way is to sign in to Xbox.com with your Live ID and redeem the code there.

Yeah it really sounded like that guy just wanted Reach to be MW2.
Also the whole coherent conversation argument he used is one of the more ridiculous I've heard :lol

Honestly, I understand that feeling he wants. I live for it in other games. The thing is, that's just not Halo.
