Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Impending college finals are making it harder to wait until Monday to play the beta. Especially since I'm about to graduate, the urge to slack off is irresistible. GAF impressions do a little to satiate me in the meantime, though.

Yea, Bungie has always reserved the right to make fun of the more ridiculous arguments of their detractors, while being generally very receptive of community feedback. Sometimes they take it a bit far though

Oh god. I had to mute a whole team earlier. Having to hear 'fucking dumbasses', and 'fuckin' faggots', over and over again was oh so tiring.

Anyways, yeah, it feels like it takes a few too many shots of the DMR or the pistol to kill someone... And god yes, the grenades are freakin powerful. Goddam

If they make the pistol any stronger or give it more ammo it will rape everything, why does everyone say it's too weak? o_o I love it best weapon in the beta.
 
I'm really enjoying the game, but I want to play it some more before I post more detailed impressions.

I have noticed one thing though. Every now and then when I stick somebody with a plasma grenade the grenade seems to vanish. Now they still blow up, but there was no visual or audio cue that I made the stick. I have had this happen every now and then.. I'm not sure if its a bug or that its just harder to tell if you stuck someone.. Is it just me?
 
OMG the first Halo Reach game I play and I fucking win? HOLY SHIT that was majorly intense. We were playing Headhunter on powershouse.. oh man.

ok the controls took some getting used too, I dunno I'm so used to B for melee.. But I melee'd a couple of fools though ^^. Sprint is awesome, running up on somebody? Genius.

22 kills/12 deaths :p.

Music and presentation of this game is amazing as well <3
 
Now that I don't have FFXIII to distract me, I'm going to see Eazy and Ghaleon playing this on my FL. Wish I could play with you guys this weekend but I'll definitely hit you guys up on Monday when I can at last download this baby. Unless the Halo gods drop a code into my lap haha Enjoy, all you lucky guys that are playing right now :)

I believe the "Recon" control type is essentially the Halo 3 default with a few tweaks. Give it a try.
 
I was sucking some major balls earlier in SWAT. I was #1 on my team and #2 in the game, but God damn did I suck at nailing people when I should have. I'd get like three body shots but not one head shot, queue them turning around and head shotting me.

I think the Focus Rifle is my favorite new weapon. It can lay down some impressive fire across the map, but it's pretty easy to get away with your life intact (though without shields).

And is it just me or do Assassinations not make any sound? Is this a glitch or an oversight by Bungie? Or maybe I'm just mistaken.
 
So pretty much anyone playing FFA or someone who just wants to learn how to use the DMR, go into FFA and always vote "Pro"...it is so good and I am loving the DMR now. :D

OMG beta download in progress! I'm floored by how nice so many of the people are on this forum. And a massive thanks to you-know-who ! (and no I don't mean lord voldemort) :D Can't wait to join everyone this evening.
 
I finally figured out how Stockpile works. This is some of the most fun I've had with a Halo game so far. The feel is different from the other games in the series, but I'm loving it after not really enjoying it the first day of playing it.

I completely disagree. Jumping is still useful mid-battle which is where bumper jumper shines.

You can't shoot while sprinting or armor locking. Only have to tap camo once. Armor abilitiy on the bumper is only really useful while using the jetpack. But the jetpack won't be available in every gametype or the times you're using a different load out.

I <3 the Plasma Launcher (more than the splaser!!!)
 
Just to verify that i'm not missing anything, there currently isn't a way to modify the meta data of files back at the menu?

I enter the game and within the first 5 minutes, we are down to a 3 man team. If this was Slayer, this would have been an advantage. But for flag....not so much.

Down 1-0, we go into the second to last round.

So began the amazing death laden comeback.

We are on offense second, and after a the point scored, we roll on to offense. Knowing that if a win is possible, now is the time for all out.

Waning seconds of the round, rendered video with a headbutt of knowledge. After throwing deaths around like the modern day penny, I find the flag and know what must be done.

Stockpile is OK in Powerhouse; cannot stand it in Swordbase.

Seems more and more people like throwing grenades as their primary weapon unless they jump you or they have buddies with them.

Really need to take out grenades from fallen enemies, and why is flag tossing still involved? Thought it was suppose to be removed.

EDIT:

Also in the Veto page, it would be nice if the default Selection was shuffled, and not always Headhunter or Stockpile. :\

I found a bug that I seem to be able to reproduce consistentely. Everytime I name a screenshot "HDRevenge" and save it off, the file is corrupted when I go to view it later in the file browser. Adding a "2" to the end of the file or anything else to the name creates a clean file, no corruption. Weird, huh?

I agree.


Against the sky on Power House it can be hard to make out the hud and target reticule. I have the biggest problem here.
 
Spent most of the night playing with HaloGaf, goodtimes. Although playing with you lot does make me realise I'm an average player at best :lol . Toro is a machine.

I have to say the Needle Rifle is probably my favourite weapon at the mo, I like it much more than the DMR which I still am not too sure about. The pistol is taking me a while to get used to aswell.

Oh and Hydranockz you're in, congrats!
 
Got a perfection today! Yay! Played a really intense and awesome game of Oddball on Swordbase against some good players including Status Quo's Flamesword. We should have won but we lost by a narrow margin. Also, that map would be awesome without radar. Much better than it is. Also, playing a lot better with the DMR while I feel like I've taken a step back in the Magnum. That thing is wild.

Have a blast Deputy. From reading the last couple of pages, a day ago, it sounded like Arena isn't available yet and it is just basic matchmaking. Is this so?
 
I'm so pissed.

I still play Halo 3 daily, and yet so many people I know got the BETA through the scam while I was at work. They play it once, say whatever, and never touch it again.

Meanwhile, I have to wait.
