Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Not really. The current bnet stats is based on a picking an upper limit based on the size of the data field in the uploaded "blob" at the time of the beta. It will be adjusted based on whatever amount the designers settle on, with some extra space for a few "bnet only medals" that we may think up later. Those are medals that only appear on bnet and not the game (Halo 3 had two - Steaktacular and Linktacular).
Speaking of the Steak and Linktaculars, can either of those make a return in game, or at least on the site? It'd be hilarious to hear Luke saying "Steaktacular" after you win by 20+.

Of course I hate aliasing in Halo 3 too, just saying Bungie should try to use real AA and not Temporal AA since this is 30 FPS. (and also becase, I'm sorry to say this, there's still some aliasing... so it doesn't really solve anything)

This is the Xbox 360, though.

I am havnig a hard time to adapt to melee myself. If the is a close quarter encounter where approach from behind, I am actually more likely to die. It confuses the hell out of me. I unload into the guy, he turns and melee's me. I melee into him, he doens't drop, he melees into me and I die.

I'm going to have to completely change up how I play because it's obviously not working for me.

No, "everybody" as in everybody gets that you don't enjoy it. You're -110 with melee. Don't think I'd be having a fun time in that scenario either.
Ah, misread. My bad. I've mostly said my piece on melee. Will reserve further griping for wrap up thoughts.

But seriously, melee is busted, and it's more than just the shield delimiter - if you must keep that, fix the double melee and visual feedback, please. :p

That's actually a really funny thing to see

-"I'mma gon' protect mah flag! *armor locks*"

-"Ok...*Takes flag and runs away*"
:lol
My personal favorite is to just take the flag and bludgeon them when they come out of armor lock. :lol

^This person never messed around with the water in Valhala. It reacted amazingly to everything, gunshot, floating bodies, grenades, etc. If you parked a vehicle on it, you could see the water going around the tires. In reach it look the same, but if you try to interact with it, you get ps2-like surface effects.

If wrong, perhaps my reach beta file has problems, or my Halo 3 disc was magic.

:lol

But it's no big deal really.

I really do love Reach, though. Love it. Won't touch Halo 3 again, no sir.

You definitely have to make sure you get the first melee strike (and obviously, the second.) He can have you on the ropes, and as long as you have a sliver of a shield, there's still a chance for the quick-fisted. Think Rocky.

Headhunter is probably my favorite new gametype so far, which is odd as I don't enjoy FFA Oddball that much, due to the dash of oportunism that is involved with it, and Headhunter is similar in this regard.

I kind of want a variation where the skull drop off points don't move throughout the match. Hopefully we'll get that in the full version.

Without the skull drop off points moving, then it really *does* become a match of people sitting around and camping the drop off point when someone tries to take skulls. By moving the points, it's not possible to camp them for terribly long.

I'm the one coding the processing of those this time. I'm hoping I'll have time to implement a few cool bnet only medals. But it is a bit premature to worry about them at this point.

I do have a list of possibilities I'm tracking as they come up, though. We'll see what happens.

I suppose that's true. Could still be fun for a change of pace but now that I think about it, yeah, probably not the best idea.

So, I don't believe I've seen this posted recently:
Right now, when you're in the pre-game in matchmaking, you can highlight a persons name and see who they're in a party with.
In active roster, you can see that a person is with maybe 2 other people, but you can't see who those people are unless they're on your friends list.
Is there a way around this? Or will it be fixed?

I got nothing, so I'll be shutting up now.

Heading back to Reach, my Armor Abilities rage from earlier is gone and I just want to play some more, feel free to send invites guys.

One thing that makes me happy is that from Urk's responses to the melee complaints is that they don't seem to be budging on it, bravo.
Yes, agreed.
If Bungie does change something related to gameplay that are not obvious glitches, I don't want them to change those things because of some comments, I want them to change those things based on all the stats and the info they can get out of the Beta we play.

Good games earlier Ram and Trasher. I had some good fun.

There are some pretty annoying things that are happening to me in Reach though. Today while playing Stockpile I was fighting 2 guys while they were trying to take a flag. I kill the flag runner and am shooting his buddy but like 4 shots in a row hit the fucking flag pole and I died because of it. Lol why is that in there? I'm pretty sure I threw a grenade off of it once too. Me and Trasher also got spawn killed on Power house by Rocket guy about 4 times each. Lol that guy ended with 9 rockets kills and it was his tool of destruction. I just kept spawning 15 feet away from him. He didn't even have to move, he just turned and looked the other way. It was sooooo awesome. Also on Sword base during a slayer game and I'm talking less and a half second after I spawned I was kill by a shotgun guy from behind. There nothing you can do but laugh. :lol

I still think the Radar is too accurate. Sword base turns into stand offs because of it. I'm also saying this because no radar plays better to my play style. :lol I like to move around the maps freely and this new Radar 2.0 doesn't let me. You might as well put a waypoint over my fucking head. Oh Team Slayer Pro where art thou? Tomorrow I guess.

I'll just echo previous posts by others by saying that, after waaay more 1 flag games on Powerhouse than I would have liked, I think that there should probably be some kind of window on the flag base.

Team Swat is ruined by the crazy popular instancs of simultaneous headshots.

It's better to have simultaneous headshots than having your shots not registering like in Halo 3.

I think it's in a shitty spot. That map is weird. It doesn't know if it has 2 bases or 4 bases. It's a decent slayer map but it's not all that great for anything else. I do enjoy stockpile on it though.

Got my first perfection today, was rather encouraging and representative of the last six hours or so of games:D I've had a real turn around on the game today. I think the turning point was when I realized the DMR is not a death star. The BR was the true death star and it's not around anymore, but I just have to get used to that fact instead of trying to use the DMR hoping for a BR-like domination.

Speaking of my perfection, the match said I had 15 kills, 0 deaths. In the game it popped up the medal for perfection and as I said the post-game report said I went 15-0 but didn't display the perfection medal. Anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone think that the competition is stiff right now?

Will it be better or worse for mid-level players like myself once the real beta starts tomorrow? And what about when the game releases?

if theyre below you the red dot is faded and harder to see..if they're above you the red dot has a drop shadow on it..if they're on your level its red.

I'm with Shake, I was doing great up through yesterday, then all day today it's been a Daravon Dong Fest (TM) for everybody. It's like I'm playing Halo 3 again, and this is why I stopped playing Halo 3, fuck! :lol

I'm already over the beta and I haven't even played it yet. It sounds like such a terrible game, don't know how Bungie could have messed up so badly.

@pringles: We bitch about everything. Almost everybody here would say it's a great game, they just have gripes about certain aspects. It's far better than Halo 3.

Much better. The people who care enough about Halo to want to play Reach 4 days early are the stinky, filthy, slimy, poopsocking Halo nerds. The regular folks will start playing tomorrow.

And they all want to play Arena. Against us. :D

It is pretty stiff right now. Back and forth in a lot of games. Even with a good team it's hard to win sometimes. Other times there are complete blowouts though. Once more people get in I think the better players will shine and the lesser ones will have a hard time. But with the true skill stuff it will even out quite well I hope.

Nice! I think I'm working backwards in that respect. Can they make an award for 15 deaths and no kills please? :lol This games is brutalizing me and Im gonna have to change they way I play or something. That or Im just on a really bad streak of luck. Im getting horrible kill/death ratios. This wouldnt be bad, but Im seeing so many people get high positive kills to deaths. Eeeep. I think I'm also changing my mind about sword base. Getting around takes you out of the action too much, and using a jetpack in the middle is a death wish a good chunk of the time. And I officially think the plasma launcher is ridiculously too strong. It's basically a rocket launcher that locks onto players and has way more ammo.

I love how I can kill someone with the plasma pistol now :lol

Im 180 games in and I absolutely love this game, I just want the veto 2.0 system to change so it doesn't automatically have the top game as being voted on.

You should play the game before you decide you don't like it! It's fun! :D
