Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Someone earlier said that 48 hr trials work to play it. Not sure about the initial download, though.

I think a few minor adjustments would help it a ton, pistol and DMR as spawn loadout would help, everyone already has to use sprint in pro I think, it's just that things like swords, hammers and sniper rifles become a little too dominant, I need practice of course but right now it's a ton of stress compared to playing with regular AR pistol spawn with a good mix of gear on the maps.

Swordbase just isn't a nice map for the more tough gametypes like pro and multi flag, it can become so imbalanced.

Jokes aside, what I meant with that post was that sometimes (maybe too often?) people tend to play objective-based games as if they were playing slayer.

And this just for k/d ratio's sake.

Now the skill in Reach is hidden; let's hyde kills and other stuff in non-slayer games.
 
So, I'm playing Stockpile on Powerhouse for the umteen thousandth time last night and I spawn in on the low end of the map. I notice a blue bastard coming through the small building to the left and greet him as he comes out the door. So starts my bad ass execute animation in which he moves around my back and whacks me DEAD. I noticed I clipped through the wall a bit but that really sucked.

Log that shit in the bug tracker and fix it. :D
 
Do deaths by betrayal count against you in the Arena? They shouldn't.. And Assists should be included on the first page of the PGCR on Bnet IMO, right now the only way to see how many assists you got in a game is through the Medal page UIM..

It's through the ODST disk, there is only one ODST disk, the other is a Halo 3 disk ;-)

Read the OP guys, Ghal didn't do all this work for nothing, just because he doesn't like the game doesn't mean you should disregard his OP :lol

I believe I saw you, not sure though.

Love the arena rating, only one with a negative k/d spread in my team, almost lost because of that, but because of my many assists I got the highest rating from my team.
 
Im beginning to really appreciate and use a lot of the core game mechanics and weapons.... The melee system was driving me insane but ive gotten used to it now and im far better at it then before. The rythm of the Pistol is great, i actually like the bloom but i would preffer if it was far more visible.

The only thing still bothering me are the frags. The strategy of frags in Halo 3 was to take down shields and shoot people, seems like many players strategy in reach is stand back, toss grenades, pick a few more up and toss some more 'nades until you get kills.
 
UGH, can't go back to sleep.
Heavily considering going for croissants and enjoying the last few hours of the early access before shit gets crazy.

We have a group of three now if you want to join us. Although I just had a pretty bad game. Had a hell of a lot of assists but hardly any kills :(.

I don't know about good....

...but I have just jumped on. Maybe it wouldn't been a better idea to play some grab bag before trying out the arena. Oh well, we'll see how it goes, it's certainly taking its time finding people.

Agreed, the effectiveness of grenades is fine. The only change needed is to reduce the number of them. Starting with only 1 grenade, or simply making them another pickup on the map (with no grenade starts) might do the trick.
 
Man the Arena is intense... I play so much differently knowing I am going to be judged so harshly.

My first game I got a rating of 1,674... I honestly have no idea how good or bad that is, but at least we won our game!

Erik I'll add you right now, I have a friend who just woke up who is going to be playing so I'll have a party of two right away.

I did the same I think, I'm actually physically tense right now. Just had my first match and it was epic as hell, we were down for most of it then came back right at the end. So much fun.

Edit: Oh and my rating was 1630, if that means anything to anyone.

Start with 1 grenade. (at least in Slayer, Territories, Oddball etc.)
Find other grenades on the map, cap is 2 grenades but make it so that's hard to find 2.

Perfect!
Just don't nerf them, Grenades are already perfect in Reach <3.
 
My problem with Reach so far is that I just can't kill anybody.
Maybe it's cause the 5000-7000 people playin over weekend represents your core Halo players, serious clanboys, pros, league players, etc.

Or maybe it's cause I've always sucked at Halo, and I suck even harder now that it takes more skill to kill people 8)

Yeah, I'd say it's the latter. Still, part of me thinks that if I rail a guy 5 times with the needle rifle he should at least die or something. (Maybe that's the battlefield/cod talking). Headshots are everything, that's for sure.

Looking forward to playing again this evening, now that the beta is open to the general public. I expect the influx of hundreds of thousands of people will serve to water down the talent pool such that ordinary people like me can have a bit more fun with it.

When playing the arena im VERY tempted to rush for kills, yet my team seems to want to always camp for the win. Camping for the win isnt going to provide good arena ratings right? Finding the balance between pushing for kills and camping for the win is going to be tough.
