Halo: Reach Beta Thread

You're doing it wrong. Spam the pistol at an enemy until you see their shields pop, then take careful aim at their head.

Pro tip: if you're really having that hard of a time with the reticle, put a tiny piece of tape on the screen where the reticle is supposed to go. It is always in the same spot. I've never done this because I don't have a problem with the reticle, but yeah, it'll work.

For me, every time the shields pop, I get the dead mans click. I try to reload, but its too late, I just got double melee'd.

Second game of Arena and my 2 mute teammates vote slayer pro, log 1 kill each, then quit. Leaving me and another guy to get donged on. Which was funny, cause I only went minus 1. Still, so shitty.

Pop shields, Swap to Secondary Weapon, Pop them in the skull, Run off laughing.

Did the stats on Bungie.net reset? It says I've only played for 30 minutes.

It says you have been playing Arena for 30 minutes.

Then hit the 'Standard Tab' and it says you've been playing for 16 Hours and 50 Minutes

edit: holy shit it is up!

do we even have an ETA yet? I knew somebody would fuck this up, just like last time.

Bungie said, in the Weekly Update last week, that it would go up mid to late morning PDT.

EDIT: Well this is interesting. I'm currently stuck in a pregame lobby. It's been several minutes since the voting countdown ended, and here I am. I think the tubes are clogged.

If only switching weapons was faster. So slow, before I even get the second weapon out I'm usually dead mid animation because I got melee'd or they stuck to their main gun.

Here's a question (I don't understand Arena a whole lot): If person A plays the game for the whole day and does average throughout the day will they have a better rating than person B who plays for a smaller portion of the day but plays excellent the games that he does play?

I like how this is being blamed on the game. :lol

I believe it only counts your three best games. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You'd need to define some things here... How long exactly is a "whole day" and "portion of the day". What is "average" and what is "excellent".

Can someone please clarify this? Is it 3 best games, or first 3 games? And when does a "day" end?

Person A plays for 10 hours and goes on average +5 per game.

Person B plays for 3 hours and goes on average +10 per game.

What I'm trying to get at is; does the amount of games played in the arena contribute to your rating or is it solely based on individual performance in the games that you do play?

Only the three best games count for your daily rating.

It is something you get use to. Close range someone is always going to get a quick punch in, so its best to back-pedal a bit, giving a bit more time to get out secondary or reload.

With Halo 3 your pretty much shot someone and hit them for the kill, for Reach it seems to be a little better to hit them early on and use bullets for the kill, or another friendly whack. :lol

The Plasma Launcher should not be in the Arena. Well, it shouldn't be in the game at all, well only if it's infantry lock-on is removed, but that's besides the point.

The Arena game I just played emphasizes Sword Base's terrible layout. A couple of blue guys were able to camp 6a Attia with the shotgun and the sniper, and they won because of it. My team kept on spawning at the bottom most level (I still feel at a disadvantage when I spawn on the bottom floor). I should be able to visit each individual floor on either side without having to go to the other side to get there.

Bungie, cut your pizza party short and turn the damn Beta on.
I have this sneaky suspicion that the whole "Beta will be accessible through ODST" thing is just a big lie that Bungie has told to get more sales for that game.

Really the only ways to enter the Beta was by monitoring 15 different websites for codes and win the copy/paste races against 2 million other people.

Did nobody notice the dashboard in the background of the picture? It's obviously from the F&F beta or it would show ODST's menu. :lol
I noticed, but it didn't sounded that strange to me that you get directed to your dashboard. Like some stores ingame.

Looks like Bungie is taking a cue from the CE PSN monkey, AKA, upload whenever you damn well please. Lol. 30 million of us feel this pain each week.

Each side has it's own elevator, and you can use jet packs to hop up to the second level (from which you can get to the third level).

edit: and if you come back with "well the sniper head shots all of us while we're flying" then you're probably going to lose anyway if someone is that good at-will.

I noticed a team of 4 we were against came from a party while the rest of us were probably single players, does the matchmaking only do that as a last resort? because it's annoying to enter the matchmaking solo to be paired up with the no camping squad all in private chat, you know you will be butthurt afterwards.

Well got 4 games of the Arena in, got a ranking of 1472 (someone tell me if this is good or bad :lol )

Randomly got teamed up with Sai Kun for the last two matches, of course in addition to sucking more than usual my little sister decided it would be a grand ol time to start downloading the internet or some such.

Note: Reach's awesome netcode won't help you when you have a ping of about 1400ms, in case you were wondering.
