Halo: Reach Beta Thread

The beta does not seem to be compatible with "old", "worn out" or even "broken" controllers, where most of the buttons don't work properly. It's making me lose tons of games

Will this compatibility problem be fixed?

They didn't fix the Invasion playlist splitting parties? That's the biggest one for me I'm surprised. Still awesome they actually updated it in general though.

Very glad to see an update, seriously.

Updating during the beta will give them MUCH more valid feedback a la the StarCraft 2 beta.

Don't be afraid bungel.

Wowzers, if that's the skybox for the largest multiplayer map, then I cannot wait for the Campaign skyboxes - the highway at the end of ODST had some phenomenal sybox work.

Seriously. My first playthrough, I literally stopped what I was doing to watch the ship glass downtown. I was like :O

You've made your opinions known regarding Reach over 2 dozen times. We get it. Make a Reach Beta defense force avatar and stop spamming the thread.

And welcome to my ignore list.

I have every right to laud the glories of Reach as you do to poop on it.

Amazing. The campaign is going to drop jaws, I reckon.

Nooooooo, from this moment on your opinion is invalid, nothing you ever say can redeem that. :lol

How is Elites VS Spartans guys? How does it work, what load outs are there? What else has been changed?

Sonic had its glory days.

but more importantly - How is Elites VS Spartans guys? How does it work, what load outs are there? What else has been changed?

A new gametype goes live alongside some fancy new updates.

Embrace change! We've just made some adjustments to the Halo: Reach Beta and introduced a new flavor of Slayer inside the Grab Bag playlist. Along with a host of under-the-hood technical type stuff that you don't need to be too concerned about, here's the list of alterations you'll definitely wanna know about:

* Grab Bag’s “SvE Slayer” pits Spartans vs. Elites
* Spartan DMR Loadout removed from Invasion Phase 1
* CTF Flag return proximity slightly increased
* Headhunter skull pickup radius increased
* Same team Stockpile flag removal and re-scoring resolved

It's all live right now. Fire up the Beta and check it out!

Nice

I agree with this but i know it will be ultimately fixed come fall.

I hope so. Party splitting has been an issue since Halo 2.

First game of SvE Slayer was very enjoyable. Only starting with one grenade really helps out with the grenade spamming/the problem I have with grenades.

Every gametype should start off with one grenade.

It's straight Slayer, with no loadout selection. Map weapon spawns are normal. Eites spawn with Nerfle/Plasma Pistol, while Spartans start with DMR/Magnum.

I'd say it is nice Elite-biased fun. :D

Hmm, taking out Marksmen/DMR loadout in Invasion Phase One should give the Elites a even chance. I would've just gave the Elites Needler Rifles to even it up, but that's just me. :lol

Can't wait to play these new updates, seems to fix a few problems.

Hell yeah, motherfuckers.

In a universe of rocket launchers, grenade launchers, energy swords and cosmic hammers of doom you motherfuckers are complaining about a pistol?

;)

If it does get nerfed though, please keep it close-range capabilities.

It nice to have a spawn weapon that gives the player a "fighting chance" against swords, shotguns, etc..

IIRC, earlier in the thread, one of the Bungie guys said that it wasn't possible to fix it in the Beta. Will still be fixed for Fall though.

That's right jerkwads, all the cool kids are Bronze. Mine just hasn't shown up yet.

P.S. GET RID OF THE DAMNABLE SWORD BLOCK. Hate that crap.

I'd rather they just tone down the grenades and continue to spawn us with 2 with some map pickups as well. They are a key part to the battle formula, but they're obviously a bit *too useful right now.

I'm right behind you on that one...

Same here, maybe just make the sword a two hit kill weapon. One slash for shields, anything else for the kill, including a quick melee.
Reduce the hammers lock-on range and I don't think you'd even have to adjust the sprint to attack thing.

Agreed. I thought they worked perfectly in Halo 3. Plenty useful in the right hands but rarely did you feel cheated being on the other end.

Wow, they actually removed DMRs from phase 1? Fucking finally. It was so fun being an elite and having three Spartans focus fire DMR spam at you as you run across an open field.

Maybe next time bungle can have a beta before the beta, so we can expect the beta to be balanced ZOMG

I was just talking about for the beta. I'd of course have them tweaked for the final game.

I have no idea how it got by internal testing, but I didn't mean finally as "ABOUT TIME THEY FIXED IT" but rather "ABOUT TIME I WONT BE GETTING OWNED =["

So true.

Wow. Just played a game.

I hate this game. I feel defenseless at all times because I never know when my weapons are actually going to work as advertised.

Terrible experience. An abomination.

If you think you suck at Reach, then I really suck at Reach. I am but lowly steel. =(

Nice to see the new playlist changes Bungie just rolled out. I'm looking forward to playing GB SvE.

Got a question of Urk/Mancannon: Given the uber-tools the multiplayer team now has to whip up game types on the fly and prototype and test them in short order, will it be possible for Bungie to roll out new game types after launch with relative ease? For example, if someone figured out a way to combine Infection and something akin to Invasion for Grab Bag?

Also, will there be a way for we the players to create those gametypes our selves for custom games without going the honor system route of Halo 2 Infection/Zombies?

... What? Not really. Not even nearly to the extent that it is happening on this beta. I have never played Halo 2 or 3 online where my bro who is on split screen with me has been split up. Party splitting was rare on Halo 3. Wasn't the beta's implementation on purpose? I am pretty sure someone mentioned it was the intention to split them up more. Either way, it will be fine come fall.

If I wasn't so tired, and didn't have to get up early tomorrow, I'd turn my 360 on right now for Spartans vs. Elites - hot damn.

In a way I don't like that they made the radius for Headhunter skulls bigger, since it's better to pick up skulls you actually noticed instead of lucking out and picking them up, but there was a time or two when I had to double back a few times to get one in the open, plus they sometimes end up in corners that you can't touch them... :lol

Same mixed feeling for huddling up to return the flag, but both changes are all good with me...

Bronze, as has been said (though I wish there was a decoder ring on b.net or something). I was certain I'd be Steel. And may yet be, in the end. In any event, my post was meant to be read sarcastically.
