2-D is great. And so is Disco and platform shoes and A-line flares with pockets at the knees and all of the 80's but this is 2005 now and times have moved on.
RR and Wipeout pure on PSP is a stunning example of what's achievable on the move. Sooner or later we'll have true (real) depth 3-D gaming on the move. That day can't come quick enough.
It's here. The PSP is more than capable of doing high quality 3D, unless you think that the PS2 didn't give "true (real) depth 3-D" gaming" either (whatever that means).
2D doesn't sell well. Back when we were stuck with 2D, a lot of us pined for the increased freedom and realism of 3D. I am a 3D whore. Fuck 2D. If there was never another 2D game made, I wouldn't shed a tear. PEACE.

Can't tell if you're serious or just an instigator. Back when 2D ruled, i never felt stuck with it even though I was technically.
They are different and great in their own ways. You'll never get precision control in a 3d game. It can't compete with per pixel collision and a fixed camera angle. 2d will never get the level of detail found in today's 3d games.
As for portables, I'd rather play a 2d game for control reasons. If the system had 2 analog sticks, I'd be there for 3d gaming.
My only interest in handhelds comes from the fact that there still are nice 2D games on those. I like 2D for it's style and for the genres which it works for. It's not a matter of 'anything you can do in 2D can be done in 3D'.
