Happy Bobby Bonilla Day!

Damn still 10 years. I like the way otani structured his contract. Its a different situation but he deferred a bunch of money till after he retires on his dodger contract.

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 did you ever think we'd get a better version of babe Ruth in our lifetime? I don't watch mlb like i used to but the guys insane. I fucking love it

One of the best contracts ever created for a player. Consistent long term payouts. SMART!

I wish they would stop pitching him and just have him hit as I am afraid pitching will cut his numbers down at the plate career wise.

Not many bigger baseball stat nerds then myself but Ruth played in a time that many players had actual jobs

I recall reading about a guy that would install roofs all day and would pitch 9 innings because back then they didn't bring in specialist type of relievers and Ruth would see the same pitcher 3 or 4 times every game.

Not taking anything away from Ruth because he was amazing for such a long time

Side note I know/knew Bonilla very well as we came into the league and retired close to the same time and he was a huge ass :)

Apparently he could afford to be knowing he had money coming to him for 25 years.

I swear Otani got a similar contract where he has tons of differed money coming his way.

Those super club friendly contracts do say a lot about a player

Look at Lebron James taking 50+ mil from the Lakers

Dude is a billionaire and could easily take the vet minimum and let them build a good team but nope, he wanted paid

I would love a contract that paid me millions even years after I was retired. I understand that if you manage your money well when you get it really shouldn't matter. I still have never understood how people get millions and blow it all on image or foolish purchases. I feel Tyreeq Hill will be broke when he leaves the NFL.

Have seen people just burn through that money

I never got paid huge playing when I did plus being a middle reliever, just wasn't a lot of big contracts for those roles back then

I was terrified from day one it would never last so literally 90% of everything I made went into buying land hoping I could eventually turn a profit for a quick buck once my run was over

Read this fast and thought the title was Bonnie Bedelia. Was hoping for a Die Hard thread. 🤪

One of my favorite books in high school was 75 seasons, which was a retrospective of the nfl at 75.

One of my favorite players that I never saw play was dick lane. Night train lane. He was riding a bus to his factory job and saw the rams training facility. He had some newspaper clippings from when he played in the US army's football league while serving. He brought those in and asked for a try out.

Held the nfl record for interceptions in a season for 70 years.
