I don't think the matchmaking display is quite representative of what is really going on (kindof like what Halo does).
I find if I hang in there, it starts games without the lobby really showing anything meaningful.

Played a bit of the game last night. Over all it was, ok. Nothing really jumped out at me.

Combat seemed mostly luck based or if you were running with the zerg. My favorite part was the TeamSkills. Very flashy and fun.

Achievements are run of the mill stuff, level up, spin to win game, But with one or two you have to pay to get.

All and all, a fun and mindless game that you can get cool loot and beat up people with your friends

Also it would be fun to do a gaf night of this.

You also need a computer for League of Legends, guess it's not free huh

Still beating this drum, huh Danger? As I said in the other thread, your analogy is broken. You cant exactly call a title "free to play" when an optional subscription to a "value add" service like Live is required to play.

FFXI and Phantasy Star Universe are both online multiplayer games that do not require Gold service to subscribe and play - why should this be any different? Even though we all acknowledge that people will not be purchasing Gold subs just to play the game, the principle of the matter still stands. Silver/Free users can buy MS Points and spend them too, so you can't even call this a sound business decision.

His argument falls apart the moment you buy an Xbox.

"Guess you need a console to play your games after all duh"

And they're both horrible comparisons to this game. One is not F2P by any stretch of the imagination, it's a classic MMO with a monthly fee. The other is a standard full retail game with some MMO-light concepts. Regardless both of them cost money to buy.

I make the comparison merely to illustrate that it is possible for Microsoft to allow access to this title to their non-Gold 360 owners. Neither of the games are Free-to-play, and I don't believe I ever claimed them to be - but by virtue of their existence, it invalidates any logical reason why Microsoft would put a free-to-play title up behind the Gold paywall.

Played for 4 or 5 hours, even if it could take a while to find a good match, this game is super fun. It kinda reminds me of old arcade Dreamcast online games, it's easy to get into it but it also has some interesting strategies. Also, playing as a Cleric is awesome :O

Got into 1 game last night and really enjoyed it but haven't been able to get into a game since, it's quite frustrating. That and you need to play Multiplayer to level up to be eligible for the single player campaign. Arg!

If you are having trouble getting into MP games try Co-op. It counts towards your level rank (although you tend to get less than a MP game) and the matchmaking is much faster because there are fewer human players.

1600 msp spent in this game so far, 1200 worth of card packs and about 400 msp worth of tickets to aid upgrades and stuff, for the fun I have had it's worth the money to me.

I was stuck in matchmaking for ten minutes and then shut it off. The game seemed fun based off of the experience I had with the tutorial, but the matchmaking seems to be broken as all hell. Either that, or no one is playing.

I checked the leaderboard this morning and it was at 112k, it's 170k atm. If you fire it up again try to get in a Co-op match. I've found it faster to get in a game that way.

Finally got into a game today after spending a long time in matchmaking. The game is really unbalanced. The enemy team had some really high-leveled players. There was one opponent in particular who one-hit killed me all the time and took forever to damage. He finished the game with a 38/0 kill/death ratio. It's so unbalanced. I don't think I'll be returning to this game. Maybe if they patch the matchmaking.

Game is fun but yeah you can get some overpowered opponents. Just won a match where we were getting killed as the other team had 5 towers. One of our guys somehow got behind them and took down their base himself. Lol
Borderlands 2 was getting old so this is a nice filler until the heavy hitters arrive soon.

Bah. I had some router issues, and bought a new one, which of course reset all my port forwarding.
I've fixed it, and I'm getting into HW games much easier now. Could also be due to the growing player pop.

The metagame I'm seeing right now is all rush, mostly because there are so many players that have nfi, but playing cleric, levelling up quick and spam healing at critical battles (particularly at the first encounter at the middle flag/spawn point) gives advantage.
Haven't been involved in a losing team since doing this.

Once your opponents forces are split, they just keep respawning and running back into battle in dribs and drabs like lambs to the slaughter. They should be hanging back and running back in as a group.

all it takes is one smart player to slip away and get all the towers and then your suddenly screwed - but i do think all the towers should be taken before a castle door can be open

They have a message up now saying they're aware of matchmaking problems and are working on it. Hopefully we get something soon, as I'm currently getting matched up with people from Japan and I'm EST.

Yeah I was checking gamercards when I was in a loby for 15 minutes and it was mostly players from Japan. That was late last night. Wonder if it's any better today.

This looks like Fat Princess on PS3! Anyway, the game downloaded without me asking it, too bad I have no Gold. Would love to try it out.

Seems like the matchmaking is fixed. The message has been taken down, and I got into a game just then pretty quick.

I'm hooked on this game. Got MVP last night on my Cleric even though my Kill/Death was 0:0. Me and a friend ran along the right side of the map in the snow level, ran past their whole team, built a ladder on the side, he kills the 1 guy defending the castle and destroyed the castle all while everyone else is fighting for the second tower. This worked in back-to-back snow level games, people just try and get that second tower and respawn on their first tower on that map for too long on that map. Second time I went 1:0.

they need to fix that - like all the towers need to be taken before ladders can be built

That's stupid, you need a team on defense or you need to make sure no1 gets by you. I like it the way it is. It's not like people weren't spawning while we were taking it down, they were just to dumb to spawn in the castle after "Your castle has been breached" goes across their screen in big letters. If you match up with other party's of good teams the game is surprisingly balanced I'm finding, seems to always be a way to counter what the other guys are doing as long as you move quick enough. Was in a match where both teams didn't have a main gate but it lasted another 3-4 minutes, was crazy.

Not for me. Still some pretty long waits. Says they are still working on a fix.

Same.

The pumpkin level is cool.

I actually liked this. Some questions

Is this f2p in the sense either earning your way to win or paying for it?

If it does have a "wall" then how far in is that? Sorry if these things are in the OT but I didn't get a chance to read all of it yet.

Kind of has that Fat Princess charm but I do think that FP has a little more meat and depth. I need to play it more but I did like what I tried.

There is no wall. Everything is open from the beginning apart from SP missions that are unlocked as you level up.

Money lets you buy items, level them up much faster than someone playing for free and can be used instead of the earned in-game currency to give you a temporary perk when you re-spawn.

The levelled up items can give a player a decent advantage but there is a fairly strict weight limit early on so they would have to actually play the game for a while before they could be fully equipped. From my experience so far, a skilled player that has put some time in will always be better than a mediocre one that pumped some cash in.

And since this was bumped.

They hit 500k players a little over a week after the official launch (although players in the pre-release period were counted in that).
It was 11th in the Live activity chart it's first week. The only other arcade title in the top fifteen was Minecraft.

I'm surprised there isn't more of a thread for this going here. It really is quite fun. It's easy to jump into and grasp, but actually has a bit of depth and customization to it. I'm enjoying it. Playing a Cleric.

The patch is up to help with match making.

Almost a million players on the leaderboard now. They should hit it on the weekend.

League Points

> Prior the first update, matchmaking was not functions as well as we’d hoped, resulting in unbalanced teams and uneven matches. This allowed some players to receive large amounts of League points, regardless of their personal abilities and by joining a good team against a weak team. Often, we noticed that some players in the top League (Immortal for example) often signed out or “Dashboarded” because they did not want to lose points. From this, we have updated matchmaking (to improve balance and even matches) and by resetting League points monthly, it will accurately reflect the skills of the each player. Please note that this does not change the actual Score Leaderboard, but only in League. With that, only players with Rank 31 and above will be affected with this change. We know some of you might be a bit unhappy with this change, but please note that we can always change this in the future and make any additions, tweaks, or removal if needed. Also, users who exited and re-started Happy Wars due to matchmaking delay or any other error may have been penalized in League Points. This has now been resolved.

Seasonal Decorations

For a limited time, the maps, placed weapons, and certain skills will be decorated with seasonal accessories. Many different themes are planned, including Christmas.

Treasure Map

Players earn treasure every day. Tackling the treasure map many times in a month grants special rewards like premium items. Progress on the Treasure Map is reset every month.

So, 1.2 Million players for the game. Not bad for the first "almost-free-to-play" game on Xbox 360.

Curious to see how this develops and how Ascend will perform, then.

Started playing this again today and man everyone is so powerful now i'm getting whooped, even my rare levle 7 sword is doing nothing heh.

Such a fun game but I can't help but feel that it can be a spammy mess at times, going to stick with my mage for a while until I get used to the combat again, keep my distance and all that.

Where do you live? from the UK here and some matches can lag a bit bad yeah. sometimes like 2 seconds to use bombs.

All you have to do is boot the game up between now and April 1st.

I started playing again today and just got in for those 40 tickets in time, but I like this latest update! you get more character slots to make characters with now. Always found this game fun.

^^ The items you get have pretty good attributes, which is great for those who don't want to spend actual money to get the "premium" items.
==========

On another note I downloaded this game last year, played the tutorial, and never touched it again.. until yesterday. Where I basically played all day. It's dam fun, but my only problem is that you are at an extreme disadvantage if you don't have the "premium" weapons/armor/items, which you have to spend money on. You can get these items though normal play but its becomes a really tedious chore to do so, since the experience/money you acquire is based on your performance. And my performance is never good because I spend most time looking at the respawn screen because my armor is so weak(esp my Mage).

The only time I'm actually effective was when I play the Cleric and stand in the background healing teammates, which got me a 1st place finish in a 25 player game once.

But regardless I'm still having a blast with this game. It's just weird that this game hasn't even broken the 2nd page in the |OT| yet.
