My new computer has a SATA hard drive and room to insert another hard drive. I have an IDE one from my previous computer, but there are no ribbons available. However, there is a SATA cable available and I was wondering if there was some kind of adapter I could use to hook my IDE drive up that way.

Do you have IDE ports and no cable (ribbon)? If so, yes, just get an IDE cable.

if you're saying your motherboard has no IDE slots open (like mine does, so now I've got a 160GB HD that I can't do anything with for awhile), your best bet is to get an IDE controller.

Check NewEgg.com. You can get them as low as $17.

And thank Hito for that advice.

You'll have to elaborate on "no ribbons available". Each ribbon cable can support 2 devices. Most motherboards support 2 IDE ribbon cables, allowing for 4 total IDE devices.

If you're really full up on IDE, then you need something like this:

I think he's saying he's got a brand new comp that came iwth a single SATA drive, and a room in the case for another HD, but he only has a IDE drive left over from his old computer. He doesn't realise that PC mobos right now have 2 IDE headers along with SATA ones.

Obcourse he could have bought a Mac, in which case I have no idea about it's mobo layout. :|
