So the verdict?

Differences can be much bigger in specific games (like HL). X3D processors are less affected by memory speed.

Yes it's always yes... it has always been yes since YouTubers started making the same video 12 years ago.

It has given good performance increases for a long time. Probably more with older CPUs, since those had much smaller caches.
I remember just tightening the timings on the memory of an K6-III+ and getting close to 25% extra performance in MDK2.
When I did the similar things with a Core2Quad and a 2600K, I also got decent improvements. Though not as big.
I also had a friend with a Core2Duo, which I overclocked the core speed and the memory, resulting in a 30% performance improvement.

Remember that every clock cycle the CPU is waiting for data from the memory, it's a lost cycle, with no work being done.

Yes, always has been the case especially with certain game engines. Going from a a 32gb kit of single rank DDR4 3600 cl18-18-18 (which was xmp) to a kit of dual rank DDR4 3733 cl14-114-14 made huge differences especially wit mins fps, even at 4k using a 11900k paired with a 6900XT. I started dabbling with memory timings back in the early 2000s, still have a set of OCZ Gold VX DDR 500 that could do timings of 2-2-2-5.

Depends of the game, but it can make a good difference.
Mind you HU didn't make some extreme memory overclock, with super tight timings.
It's just XMP/EXPO and it still helps quite a bit with performance.
Considering that DDR5 prices have gone down, it's worth going for a 6000Mbps kit.

And then there is me stucked with my 4 sticks 64gb at 4800mhz (with a 7950x3d tho!) :messenger_squinting_tongue:
