Yes, yes a nerd hobby, I know, I know o_O But after getting one of those gundam 1/100 plastic model kits, I got addicted to making them :lol

So anyway after hearing that they were great, I bought a bunch of gundam markers to paint the models I built. I go home, open them up...

WTF?

The tip of those markers is white? Well the waste majority of them. I bought about a dozen of them, and except for the special colors (fluorecent green and pink), all the tips of the markers are completly white. Aka no ink in them o_O

Do I have to shake them?! I noticed i can remove the white tip and plug it the other way, but hum I dont think its suposed to be that way.

So what the heck is going on? I got screwed with fake bootlegs markers or something!? :lol

Yeah, those are the paint markers.

What you do is shake them to agitate the paint.

Then on a piece of paper, press the tip down so it goes into the body of the pen & release. Do this until the tip is saturated with the paint. Then you can start using it.

Personally I don't like the paint markers. It's really tough to control the flow of paint, and the paint doesn't seem to "stick" as well as it does if you use a brush.

The fine line markers (which are usually black, brown or gray) that you use for seams & details are great to have, though.

Welcome, nerd hobbiest! ;) (same here)

How to use Gundam marker. 1st shake. 2nd Press down the tip very hard - and the ink will flow out on the tip. Try on a paper first - you will get hang of it.

If you mess up, then use denatured alcohol to wipe off. (Windex works too.)

Detail areas are much better off using actual brush - you can actually bleed the ink by pressing down the Gundam Marker on a tray, then use a brush to paint.

Basically Gundam Marker is an acrylic base paint pen. (except the panel-liners, as there are 2 kind of panel liners - one is acrylic (brush like pen), and another one is more like sharpie.)

Personally, I don use Gundam Markers - although it appears it would be easy to use in the beginning being a pen - but it's hard to paint clean without stroke marks in large areas... but panel-liners are actually pretty good.

good luck, and hope this helps.
