I've got my diploma on the wall. Printed on faux parchment!

Though, you did say that you liked The Darkness. You may like Rhapsody!

You might like Magnet, they're quite pretty and pleasant-sounding. In fact, you might check out any number of the recent Swede-based acts.

And yes, listen to LCD Soundsystem, even if he/it is far from your musical comfort zone.

get the new Tegan & Sara album So Jealous. It is good stuff. Eisley first full album comes out this week. It is pretty good.

Things just to try though:
The French Kicks
Rilo Kiley
The Cooper Temple Clause
Ambulance LTD
LCD Soundsystem

Another vote for LCD Soundsystem. How can you not love an album that opens with "Daft Punk is Playing at My House"?

I'd also check out the Organ (very Cure inspired girl band) and My Favorite.

Uhhh, this new Styrofoam album is pretty hot. It's got Ben Gibbard on a song, if that's your thing. It's a nice digital-elecrtonic type of album, except it doesn't sound as sterile as most of the stuff shoehorned into the genre.

Also, the new M83 album is growing on me, but the first one is still several degrees hawter!

EDIT: Or if you're willing to give something leftfield a shot, the new Bonnie Prince Billy is pretty amazing. Be prepared to spend some time with it -- it takes a bit of unraveling. It's a sparse, yet textured work that hints at a dozen moods and emotions without ever explicitly singling out any specific one. As with all fine records, I catch something new on every listen. It's an early contender for my favorite this year. LCD Soundsystem (fine as it is) is pure confection; this is the main course.

The latest Rilo Kiley album is good. If you can deal with a bit of the cheesefactor then Scissor Sisters might be worth a look.

Also, not new but maybe something overlooked that I think you would like is Spoon and their Kill the Moonlight album.

You can check out one of their songs here

Elefant is nice, very similiar to Interpol/Killers and The Velveteens are cool guys. And since someone brought them up, Logan's solo stuff is fun. It's like a beck/hiphop/TMBG/Werd Al thing going on. Websiite is here. Check out The Robot Cat.

I'm finding the current musical landscape stale and uninspiring, there are some exceptions, but really how many power-punk (or whatever you call it) bands do we need. Reminds me of the nu-metal, grunge, hair metal fads. Anyway, Ive just been buying old stuff lately, I guess Im really getting old:

Bob Marley Deluxe Editions: Rastaman Vibration, Exodus, Burnin'
Bruce Springsteen: The Rising

Shig

Strap on your hooker ...
My favorite album in a while is Keane's Hopes and Fears. I guess it could be classified as piano rock, but the rock part is a little unfitting, as it's very laid-back and somber.

Archaix

Drunky McMurder
I've tried recommending the New Pornographers to MAF in the past. He ignores me. I am ashamed of my insignificance.

Also, I'd second the Decemberists. Though they don't necessarily fit with what you're after, they're great.

Two bands that I think would fit are Rilo Kiley, as mentioned already, and Delgados. I've only heard their most recent album "Universal Audio", but it might be something you'd like.

Im actually making a list from this so this helps. Decided instead of a new cell phone ill barely ever use ill just cut my plan down, keep the old one, and buy a couple cds to stave off 'new things-itis'

the bravery - the bravery
i recall you liked killers a lot. the bravery picks up from there and turns the electronic elements up a notch. i think their album is better than bloc party's, pretty diverse and fun. i'd also third the LCD soundsystem recommendations.

stills - logic will break your heart
going by your list, you should like this album. not too recent though.

mewithoutyou - catch for us the foxes
if you're into emo.

m83 - before the dawn heals us
perfect for night driving.

pinback - summer in abaddon
yeah. this is too good to miss.

junior boys - last exit
another must get.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
I don't know if this is anything you'd want to listen to, but it's good, and it came out recently:

Laurent Garnier - Cloud Making Machine
Amon Tobin - Chaos Theory
Chemical Brothers - Push the Button

CB album is much better than their last one, btw.

sorry MAF, but I'm trainwrecking it too.

That Rhapsody album fucking rocks.

Algalord arise, greater than before
time of peace, not of war
shouts of freedom from the castle walls
freedom in the land, and
hope for all!

Just wanted to thank everyone for the input. Picked up More Adventurous by Rilo Kiley tonight, great cd, Almost picked up the white stripes live cd but im generally very wary of live cds cause the audience can totally fuck shit up

You don't have to worry about that as much as you used to. If there's audience noise on a live CD nowadays, it's pretty much there because the band or producer wants it to be there. It's not like the White Stripes are releasing MD-quality bootlegs.

God I picked up Sade live cd, and the audience was completely overpowering. ALMOST picked up Mirrorball since I lost my *ahem* backup of it. Decided to wait since I just got Afterglow Live. Sorta wanted it tho, but with the nova gone hard to find.

What I picked up largely depended on my memory, which is horrible.

Damnit MAF, pick up Over the Rhine - Ohio already... you won't regret it.

Dice

Pokémon Parentage Conspiracy Theorist
I'll second Over the Rhine

Also have you heard a lot of The Arcade Fire? BEST BAND EVER! ...but that is my propaganda, they might not be your style.

But I'll also second A.C. Newman who is awesome, especially since you like The Shins.

...Ok seriously MAF, I know your style and you'll love A.C. Newman.

Then I'll throw out votes for Spoon's album "Kill the Moonlight" and you'd probably also like The Walkmen and maybe Mates of State.
