has disgaea: afternoon of darkness been discontinued already?

at most places online it's showing up as backordered. at others, it says discontinued. i mean damn, it only came out 4-5 months ago!

ebgames.com doesn't have a listing at all for it anymore. what a shame :[

How much did this retail for to start with? Curious because Bestbuy.com has it backordered for $29.99 and my local one has a bunch of copies.

It would make sense to discontinue it. They can discontinue it so it'll sell out and the only option for people that want portable Disgaea will be the DS version.

Actually, NISA titles don't dissapear like Atlus ones do. I still see Disgaea 2 new a lot for $30, and my walmart has some grim grimores for 20.

I seriously dont understand this with atlus and NIS titles...you know it could be rare. Why not pick it up before?:lol

Eh well decided to just pick this up since i remember having seen it at my local Best Buy the other day, ends up they had 2 copies (1 now) even though it shows they had none online. Didn't want to end up having to deal with finding a new copy on ebay or praying to find a stray copy in some B&M a couple months from now.

Only bad thing is i won't get around to this for ages lol.

I was hoping the game would stick around in retail channels long enough to drop to $20. $40 is just too much for a game I've already played to death on PS2.

How is the guide for this?

Like all Doublejump guides, completely badass to the max. There are a couple errors, but they quickly pointed them out on their website. Seriously, if there's one company you buy guides from, don't hessitate when it comes to Doublejump.

Good stuff, I also had an Amazon order t hat I got fed up of waiting for. While I assumed that it was a reprint wait (the reason for it being orderable... order available.. whatever) I grew tired of waitign and managed to snag one for 35 off of ebay instead.

it's disgaea, so probably.
If it's Disgaea, then probably not. Atlus reprinted the PS2 game numerous times. I still have my first print, but over the years I've seen the resale value of the game drop as more and more new copies of the game hit stores. I guess that's a good thing, but it also cheapens the experience... just like all those remake/ports.

I was in the same boat as you (well wanting to pick it up for $20, never played it) but figured it'd be too much of a pain in the arse to find new sometime down the road at $19.99 or some other crazy clearance price that's YMMV at some B&M. If you can find one at a Best Buy it's $29.99 not too bad, that's halfway there :lol.

I don't think I've ever seen the game in stores even.
My local EB still has new copies there. During the weekend, I saw a used copy of Disgaea at Blockbuster and that store doesn't even rent out PSP games. NISA games doesn't seem as rare as Atlus games. Though, I can't seem to find a used copy of Soul Nomad anywhere.

I think the situation is the same in Europe, the game was released last December and since then I've seen no retailers carry it, nearly all online stores were out of stock (backordered) for about a month before I got my copy on Amazon. The game was published by Koei.

buy this game. one of the best values on the psp.

Best values? It's not like it's 20 bucks or something. SUre it's a good game, but still it's 40 bucks and value and 40 bucks really don't come together unless you're talkign about a console game not matter how good it is.

Anyway I saw this at my local ebgames and I've been playing off the memory stick so I decided to pick it up. I'm probably gonna sell off my PS2 version. Even if the price went down due to reproduction. Thanks alot Atlus. Ass.

I wish Atlus didn't artificially create demand for it's products by discontinuing their products so quickly. Not that i'd buy these games, but it seems to me to just be a gimmick. I know their position is "Well hey if you trade it in you'll get full credit for it" which is a pretty dumb stance if you ask me...

I would say the value is pretty good considering the amount of entertaining hours one can get from this, and that's before including Etna mode. Even more value for those who never played the PS2 version yet.

Well I just got an email from Amazon that the order I placed for the psp version back in February and was expected to ship in March now won't ship until 04/24/2008 - 05/09/2008. I'm considering canceling the order at this point and just picking up the DS version when it comes out. Any reason why I would want the PSP version over the DS or in addition to it?

Atlus doesn't create artificial demand by printing small quantities, since they're not misleading anyone about the product or paying people to buy something they otherwise wouldn't. They're just providing an incentive for buyers to purchase their products sooner rather than later.

Regardless, the reason they do this is because for all businesses the best result is to sell everything you print. Atlus (absent unusually low orders from retailers) prints games in a quantity sufficient for them to profit at a high enough rate on their initial investment, thereby ensuring that despite their tiny operation they can continue on to bring other Japanese games over in the future. Since Atlus doesn't see a dime of the exaggerated eBay prices for their games, it's not actually in their interests to under-print their games by too great a margin.

If you search for "disgaea" at ebgames.com, scroll down to the bottom and press the "Show backordered items" button. It'll come up and you can see if it's at a store near you.

The game is going for $30-40 used, so $34 + edge card at EB isn't too shabby, if you can find a mint+complete copy.

glad i was able to snag a copy. got by renting it from gamefly and using the keep it option. i had 5 gamefly dollars so it came to about 28 bucks.

Seems like Atlus/NIS reprinted Digaea PSP and re-released it this week...I saw it at my local Fry's here in SoCal yesterday and it's in stock at Amazon and BestBuy.com.

For those who haven't gotten it for their PSP yet here's your second chance =)

PSP games aren't huge sellers where I am so hopefully I can still find it, but this is a niche game so the hardcore crowd probably already got their copies.
