Both names suck. When they launched it on April 1st, that was one of the things that made it look like a joke. The dumbass boring name. After froogle, I was expecting something more punny.

My Email still reads @gmail, and www.gmail.com still works, maybe the @gmail was some kind of beta tester bonus?

According to Heiss Online, Google is not longer handing out Gmail accounts in Germany, in an attempt to avoid a local trademark dispute over the Gmail name. Rather, they are handing out GoogleMail.com accounts.
