Has MS given up on BC already?

I haven't heard anything about an update for the 360's BC list in over a month. I know two came out right after launch, but since then there have been no rumors of any future updates.
It sucks because there are still a few Xbox games i would like to play on the 360, and that could only help MS with increased sales if they made their titles compatible on two platforms....
 
haha, so few people have the 360 they're probably not worried about it!

seriously though, give it a little time. I hate this whole issue but I have to say that they should be given some more time to prove what effort they will put in on it.
 
The funny thing is that Xbox 360 backwards compatibility seems to make original Xbox games play worse.

I mean, why bother? It was one thing when the PS2 could basically play almost all PSOne games flawlessly and with texture smoothing & fast loading, but why would I want to play Xbox games on what amounts to a $399 buggy emulator?
 
I'm giving them 6 months before I start harping on them (mark your calenders)
 
I thought i would love being able to play PSX games on my PS2. Then i quickly realized just how bad PSX games looked and NEVER again inserted a PSX game into my PS2.
 
I want them to stop adding games and to get the current Xbox games to work properly! Fix those before going onto other games...

There was another thread about BC recently and iirc there wasn't a single positive comment about playing Xbox games on the 360.
 
Xbox 360 is backwards compatible with Xbox in the same way that the PSP is backwards compatible with the Sega Master System.

Well ATI has to emulate Nvida GPU... as things goes its not easy.
 
By the time X360 is fully backwards compatible with Xbox games (if ever), X360 will already have a great X360 game library and no one will give two shits about BC. It's great really, MS gets to tout their backwards compataibilty feature but half-ass it for the first few months. People will forget and wont care about it

texture filtering < 720p/1080i

if PS2 gave PSX games a resolution boost on top of texture filtering, I think most would be singing an entirely different tune.
 
I played Halo, Halo 2 and Super Monkey Ball without any problems. As far as I'm concerned, BC on the 360 is great.

Once again, Microsoft haters are over-reacting to everything, without giving the company a chance. Now when PS3 and Revolution launch, the same people will be saying "Oh, but backward compatibility is hard to implement..." if there's any problem with any of the 2 machines.
 
I haven't had any issues with it, and last time somebody started this topic they updated the bc list ;)

Play Halo 2 single player for a level or two. Ghosting will be the most annoying thing you have witnessed in an emulated game.

Except, of course, that homebrew emulators will let you play Master System games perfectly on PSP, whereas I haven't yet tried an Xbox game that ran perfectly on X360.
 
This is what you get with emulation. It sucks. Unfortunately, MS wasn't forward thinking enough, back while developing the original Xbox, to have the 360 be truly backwards compatible.
 
Damn! I wanted to hunt down a copy of Toejam and Earl and Jet Set Radio to play. I loved Tj&E back in the days on the genesis. Too bad neither of them run on the 360

Do what I'm going to do, MOD THE HELL OUT OF IT. Keeping your old Xbox will be justified since it'll be a treasure trove of emulated classics and you can get a super cheap media PC for your TV without having to work with the botched Media Connect system of the 360.

Exactly. The irony is that people who truly care about backwards compatibility feel that way because they love the older games they played on Xbox... And they're still going to have to keep that Xbox to play them all without issues.

The whole purpose of BC is so that you can get rid of the older console. Oh well...

Yeah, that's how it seems basically. I like a lot of Xbox games, plus I did a decent job amassing a quality library I think... so I don't wanna just give it up or have poorly playing versions. The real reason why I wanna get rid of Xbox is because I'm poor and wanna save up for next-gen already :P

They should leave it do some dudes in the community. There's so many talented hackers that are programming great emulators.

Yes, I'm looking into doing this for mine. Any good options for mod chips? Maybe I should ask in a new thread, as I don't want to derail this 'pointless' one.
 
At this point I gotta agree with Teddman. Don't bother. I miss my XBox games, and not planning this feature out from the getgo is a dissapointment and a likely mistake(and a potential loss for continued Xbox software sales).

Retrofitting a sad emulator onto this behemoth only serves to exploit how further unprepared for this 2005 launch MS probably was(as admirable as the system design actually is). Giving us a spoonful of bug-ridden glitchy game support is like a slap to the face, "Here are you happy now!?"

They shoulda probably focused their attention purely on the strength of the console and the upcoming content despite criticisms about the missing feature; the current emulation pretty much dampens expectations and reminds gamers that if they want to play Xbox games...buy an Xbox. Unless it's Halo I suppose.

PS. I think the 360 is totally rad otherwise.

Don't buy a modchip. Softmod. You can do everything you can with a modchip. Friends will thank you, and it's most likely cheaper in the long run.
 
Don't even worry about it and just stick with your Xbox 1 to play those games. Play them the way they were meant to be played, without worrying about whether or not you have the latest patch or being afraid of sudden slowdown or crashing. From the sound of that other thread, the 360 only does justice to a select few Xbox games.

See, I did think that way, but I really like the feature in the same way I enjoy using something like ePSXe on the PC. Not really retail quality, mind you, but for someone like me, it's fun. Basically, when it works right (and it does in many cases), the results are AWESOME. Some of the games look so much better than they ever did on XBOX simply due to the massive image quality boost. I was very very impressed and pleased with the results and I hope they continue to update it.
 
Comparing 360 BC to PSone is misleading in the extreme. PSOne was, pretty much, early 3D gaming and crude as hell by the standards of the PS2 that replaced it.

But in this case, we have tons of people still wanting to play current day games on the Xbox - Halo, Ninja Gaiden, etc. With live play, many of these games will have an indeterminate lifespan for years to come. So being serious about BC is in my view, not a temporary or marketing issue.

Some folks have claimed they've gotten email back from support indicating that the BC team does intend to update drivers for buggy games, including Ninja Gaiden. I guess we'll see what we will see. The entire BC issue is one of those "customer relation" topics, I think. You can argue all day about how it isn't "essential". But in the end, it's a big chance for MS to solidify customer relations and lock in their hardcore userbase by treating people (and their major investment in the Xbox library) very well.
 
IMHO they should have totally scrapped that from the system...To support just a few titles in a bad manner isn't what I understand by the terms of BC.
 
IIRC Peter Moore said (around the 360 launch time) that the BC team was "taking a break"... whatever that means.

I think it's on that launch event video from 1up if anyone cares enough to check it out.
 
bc was only pormised to keep peoples minds off the abysmal launch line up. Now when you ask "backwards compatability" they say "DOA is comming out this month!! Halo 3 later this year!!"

Some of you people are fucking ridiculous. MICROSOFT CAN DO NO GOOD BLAH BLAH BLAH! Ballmer and Gates could be blowing and rimming you after handing you a 50% stake in Microsoft, and you'd still fucking complain. Yes, you hate the Xbox 360 and Microsoft, WE GET IT.

The purpose of BC is just another marketing trick, one that seems to work. Most people will abandon BC in a year or two, much alike how most most people abandoned BC on the PS2 within two years. I know some people here will say "no I play FF IX or whatever even today".. well you are in the minority, you are not part of the "most". :)

It was canned, but it'll probably be making a comeback on the 360.
