it may sound stupid, because MS are saying this is all about the HD era...but with the australian launch not as far away as i expected im going to hold out and get one.

but then it hit me. what if no HD support again? or dummied down HD support! has it been confirmed anywhere what kind of HDTV support PAL regions are getting?

it's been confirmed that PAL regions are getting the r.o.d. again

I've been playing PGR3 on my retail PAL Xbox 360 all night yesterday, in 720p resolution.
yep, but many HDTVs are 1366x768 here in europe (seems to be some ?inofficial? 768p standard). Would be nice if this resolution would be supported natively.

1360Ă—768 is supported natively. Most TV I know treat 1360 and 1366 the same.

:lol look at me ! I am intelligent ! :lol

.....

MS pulled support from the xbox for HD/SD within weeks of its release here in australia and their web page in OZ doesnt actually confirm anything for australian 360 users since its straight from the US / worldwide section.

There are LOTS of 1366x768 HDTVs everywhere in the world.
A default 1280x720p signal will be upconverted in all 1366x768 HDTVs.

The physical resolution of the flat panel has nothing to do with TV standards.

By the scaler. I think he was talking about the framebuffer.

Still it's pretty stupid to not support higher resolutions. I don't know of single flat screen with a 1360x768 res. Most LCDs are 1366x768. Some flat panels are 1368x768. Xbox 360 should at least have supported those. Now the image has to be scaled twice if you want it to fill out the screen.

1366x768 is a smart resolution. It alows a native 1024x768 signal from a PC to be displayed without scaling.

Yep, thats what I meant. Because scaling = loss of image quality (yes, I know it isnt that bad at high resolutions)

btw. dont care about those 6 horizontal pixels

Xbox 360 is not a PC. If the developers have to start supporting absolutely all the weird resolutions by themselves it will be annoying very quickly. They already have to support 720p and at least one 4:3 framebuffer size (not mandatory, but so far all do afaik), it's enough.

If you have an option for two resolutions it wouldnt be that hard to support a third. Only problem could be the performance. But most developers are already used to making different PAL versions, just some have put more and some less care into that.

I realize that. I was just explaining to you what he meant.

PGR3 says otherwise.

Samsung LE-__R51B manual states that the optimal (and biggest) resolution is 1360x768 @ 60Hz although the panel has a resolution of 1366x768.

Edit: Just read the english manual and that's for PC resolution, it seems that the finnish manual was poorly translated.

If X360 didn't have HDTV for a region, I think it'd be a definite, X360 am lose total scenario.
I cant see xbox 360 sell that good anyway. Xbox is on sale only for 3 years (excluding the half year before the price drop), HDTVs arent very common and germany and some other countries have quite some bad overall consumer behavior due to high unemployment.
