Has U2 lost it, or have I lost it?

Y'know, there was once a time when the release of a new U2 album would have me checking the papers to find out which record store was going to be selling it at midnight. But I am SOOO unimpressed with what I've heard off their record so far that I'm considering not even buying it.

Have they totally lost it? Or have I changed into a totally different person? I still listen to Achtung Baby a lot, and it's in my personal top 5 of all time, so it's not like I hate EVERYTHING of theirs.

That might be the thing. This album is the farthest thing from Achtung Baby.

It lacks the arrogance, sarcasm and fun of Achtung Baby and instead it sounds like a mellow mix of their 80's sound and their 2000 lyrics and songs. It's not bad, but even being a huge U2 fan, I don't see myself listening to it a lot or getting any tunes besides Vertigo stuck in my head. At least not for now.

I think the album isn't bad per say, it's just that they've done it all before, and done it better in the past.

U2 now sucks. There, I said it.

Anyone that sings about..."a mole, living in a hole, drilling out my soul..." needs to go back to 3rd grade (reference to "Elevation" off of U2's "All That You Can't Leave Behind").
