Have you played Roblox?

Politicians are angry as hell about what Tiktok might be doing to today's kids but I think Roblox is much worse. Tiktok videos I understand, but Roblox .... it's just weird. And not in a artistic, fun way at all.

The only good thing is that kids who play Roblox won't get hooked on energy drinks, because their favorite "game" will overstimulate their receptive brains much faster...

I've played it a few times because I wanted to play with my son and that's what he plays.. I fully understand the appeal as people are just making thousands of games inside it.. there's almost no major game that hasn't at least been attempted to be copied inside Roblox... It's just really janky and bad and I don't like it.

There is a lot of slop on there but it has quite a few decent games that are fun to play. I turn all communication off so I don't talk to anyone, but I will die on a hill saying that Phantom Forces is a more fun version of call of duty. I've put lots of hours into it getting all kinds crazy guns.

Also the 10 year olds are insanely good and beat me down constantly.

Roblox is "game platform" - although most "games" are more slot machine style experiences that are made to get kids to "watch bar/level go up" in social spaces with ugly ass lego style characters

many games have very little actual gameplay or are VERY similar to others (most are copies of other shitty copies).

There are expections but the most poplular stuff is "slot machines for kids". And yes you can always pay to level/grow faster

Kids like it because it is simple to play, addictive leveling and it is their "own" - It is so shitty that grown ups will just plain avoid it

... except pedos of course

Roblox is a plague on "gaming" - no it is not NEAR the quality of Minecraft

My friend's daughter is obsessed with it. I've watched her play it and it's baffling that it is as big as it is. Of all the games kids can play I don't get why this is the one so many are fixated on. I've never actually played Fortnite but I can look at it and get why kids would be into it. But Roblox looks so shit. The stuff she plays in it just seems like nonsense to me. It made me feel old because I just don't get it. I figure this must be how adults felt when I was a kid and would talk about the games I was playing at the time.

Roblox is banned in a number of countries: China, Turkey, Qatar, Oman, Iran, Jordan, Guatemala ... I wouldn't mind if more countries followed their example. Never mind the lack of protection against predators. This is just unadulterated brainrot for kids.

It's fine.

I kind of reminds me of all the random Half-Life/Counter-Strike mods that so many of us used to play back in the day. Lo-fi, ultimately pointless, but fun and a decent excuse to hang with your friends while doing stupid shit.

I can understand why it's clicked with the younger generation.

I played it. It's an insane thing, every game is a microtransaction scheme. Every game is just a copycat of another.

It's popular because it gives kids the feeling of playing advanced games with simple rules and easy controls.

But it's fincially successful because it pushes kids to get money from their parents to buy skins.

I don't understand why it's tolerated the way it is.

It's so far out of my wheelhouse that I didn't even know the shit existed until a couple years ago.

Haven't played and never will.

My youngest daughter has been playing it her whole life. Lord only knows how many of my dollars have turned into Roblux. I can best describe it as Garry's Mod for kids and phones. I don't think she's played the base game in years, and I don't even remember what it's about. She's always playing some total conversion and the genres are infinite. It's almost a console ecosystem wrapped up into one phone game. Very bizarre and truly nothing like it. She's 16 now and doing just fine, so I don't know if these warnings are coming out in good faith. It's no better or worse than any other game with similar multiplayer conditions.

i didnt even know what this dumb shit was until i saw all the articles about the weird stuff, what are kids into these days? damn

Tried it, didn't see the point of it.

If I have kids I wouldn't let them touch Roblox seeing how degenerates are populating that platform.

I played it with my son who loves it. I didn't get it. Graphics bad, controls bad. I played with him until he got banned for saying the worst thing you could say in the chat. The ban notice showed what he typed and I could not believe it. My 7 year old son typed:

rape kids! rape kids! rape kids! rape kids!

He said he was repeating what someone else said. I was horrified. They banned his account and mine too (I imagine because of the same ip address). I couldn't be mad at them. At least I didn't have to play it any more.

Played is a grand way of putting it, but I've dabbled with it just to understand how it works.

I've never played Roblox and I always assumed it was akin to Minecraft given the similar style. Yesterday the below video showed up on my feed. I rarely watch Asmon's stuff, but given that Roblox has recently been in the news a lot regarding child safety issues, I figured it was worth checking out.

I watched him play for around 40 minutes and I can safely say I have no fucking clue what Roblox is

he joined the most popular servers or worlds or whatever they are. the most popular ones were completely nonsensical and extremely weird and uncomfortable. role-play as a baby was a very popular one for some reason. there were several servers that advertise "RP as a baby"

a lot of it doesn't even seem like a game. there was a poop simulator where people sat around and pooped while talking to each other

after watching him play I'm somehow even more confused as to what Roblox is

have you played Roblox? if so, what are your thoughts

My little nephew actually asked me about Roblox not long ago, him and his pals play Fortnite almost exclusively, I told him Roblox is gay and lame and for toddlers, that was before the news broke that it's actually an enormous corporate protected child predator hunting ground.

I actually did check it out on xbox for like 30 minutes, COD youtuber called merkmusic ran a video on a FPS mod in Roblox, I tried it out, it sucked balls, it's like that battlebit battlefield knockoff joke game on steam but worse.

Only thing of note really was the small downloads, you can get the game running very quickly on xbox. Speaking of xbox, surprised they still host the game after the news broke, I guess cash is king.

Imagine how creepy the boardroom discussion is around this game at Sony at Microsoft right now. Nintendo dodged a bullet not hosting this shit.

No, I've never played it. Not into the social aspect of gaming, at least not with strangers.

From what I recall, it started as a place where people could create games for others to play and was geared towards children. Kids could create their own characters, play games, and socialize with others. It's a successful version of a metaverse, basically. Then it grew more and more popular and the Roblox corp. placed value on money over safety - and now there's been several real life kidnappings of kids who were groomed on Roblox plus all the gross stuff you saw in Asmon's video. It's still massively popular with kids, but they need parental oversight and (soon) government oversight to ensure they're protected from predators.

I tried it once when it released on PS5, because I was curious as my oldest son and my nephew played it a lot.

Absolutely no clue what it is, but it's nothing I want to ever boot up again.

yes i tried and some predator thought i was a kid , if i got kids i won't let them play this game and i will tell my adult relative not to let their young kids touch this game

if you're an adult and you're playing roblox, unless you're playing with your kid - you are not to be trusted and should be put on a watchlist

I've seen my little brother play, and thank heaven I wasn't in his shoes. It's fantastic brainrot I think and sad that I was solving RE1 puzzles at his age, Dino Crisis 1 door codes, etc instead.

have no kids, so nope. If I did, I probably monitor what stuff they play and okay their playlist and ban certain ones. I can see the appeal for kids. Like they log in and there's like a bazillion mini-games and stuff. Definitely brainrot, but maybe less than the slop on youtube. I see it as kind of like newgrounds for younger for when I was a kid. Like a bunch of silly flash games and shorts.

Biggest issue I have is the massive monetization they're indoctrinating the kids into from the start, so when they start playing actual games and even just non-game stuff, the massive micro transactions and add-on fees on regular is just normal to them instead of questioning it.
