If only it were that easy. I don't think some people realize how expensive live service games can be. If a game can barely afford to keep its servers up, it's not going to stay up, and it's not coming back.

No - it would be hippocritical to sign when I have uninstalled and have no interest in ever going back.

Or even better, sign this one instead and save all the games instead of just one game.

This is fantastic and Ross is a hero for doing it. Been following his fight for a good while. It is however not relevant to something like xdefiant where it is a free to play game which is explicitly always online. I don't even think there are bot matches.

well, Ubisoft should just patch it to work without a server connection and let people host P2P matches or host a server themselves

Perfect Dark Zero can still be played online to this day, precisely thanks to the fact hat its multiplayer and coop modes simply run through P2P and a lobby browser.
the same is true for stuff like Earth Defence Force 2024 on 360 and PS3, you can still find people play these and play with friends if you want.

this era of constant server connection to a central service is fucking retarded and I hope the "Stop Killing Games" initiative will gain traction in the EU, to stop this shit from happening. noone benefits from the fact that a game gets just deleted from existence.
I fully expect some fans of the game to at least mod the PC version to work in some form or another.

I think they could have saved Xdefiant if they had implemented SBMM and not been so greedy on the battle pass. I quit after a week when I realized how slow weapon and battlepass progression was and how every lobby was just a couple of players on each team just mowing everybody else down due to no SBMM.

SBMM is cancer. the fact it didn't have SBMM was the main reason I even played it in the first place.
the reason I personally stopped is that it didn't launch with Team Deathmatch, and because I simply do not like objective based modes because every shooter like this always turns into people ignoring objectives to get high kill numbers and brag about their K/D.

Is there a petition that I can sign to make xDefiant shut down sooner? Ubisoft should refund every cent of every in-game purchase to everyone who bought anything and just close up shop immediately instead of dragging it out. What's the point of the servers being up for another 6.5 months outside of maybe some tax credits?

I never knew what the game was about. Just spent about 20 minutes on YT with it and I thought it looked pretty good.

Then I found out it was F2P. Kind of a shame really. Gaming in the sense it's been for the last 30 years is drastically changing.

People are entitled as F. There seems to be some crowds that hold too much power and can affect whatever they want. Gaming always did seem to attract a crowd that was way to toxic. And if they weren't toxic when they arrived they became that way.

Fast forward a decade and I don't see a bright future for what I knew as gaming.

I prefer SBMM. Keeps games tight and allows for players to be matched against equal level players. Increases player retention so matchmaking gets faster due to higher player bases. I have never heard a compelling argument against it.

The same old argument that every above average player makes is that they don’t like being matched against equal level players so they can’t crush lobbies which means they want an amazing experience at the expense of weaker players.

Right after I sign save the Acolyte Season 2 petition.

There are much better hills to fight, save and die on this this turd. More deserving saves out there.

oh sweet summer child. that's not how any modern "SBMM" works. it is an open secret that these matchmaking algorithms manipulate win and kill rates.

they aren't skill based, they are based on manipulative match fixing that was (no exaggeration) developers in conjunction with phycologists to maximise player retention by manipulating your team's and your enemy team's average skill level.

if you win too many matches it will put bad players in your team on purpose, and good players in the enemy team to force a loss. and it will do the opposite after a few losses. and it's extremely obvious in some games.

That’s exactly what I am talking about with SBMM. That provides a much more consistent experience which most people find more engaging so you don’t spend hours losing matches if you have bad luck.

I understand how it works and with a big player base it is much better than what Xdefiant offered. Xdefiant put you in the sweatiest lobbies I have seen for a long time where you did not feel like what you were doing made any difference. At least with SBMM some games I might get near the top of the scoreboard and feel like I contributed to the win.

This is the answer. It's not about a single specific game. It's about an idea and industry ethics. No amount of euphorisms ("""sunsetting"""... lol) will mask financial failures and bad practices of removing content.

One person can literally decide if all your investments in a video game will be null and void.

I haven’t even looked at Xdefiant other than trailers on game showcases. Which I don’t remember at all.
