Having problems with my 32X.

For some reason playing games on the 32X makes all my Genney and Sega CD games look bright red; it looks really bad, but when I take it off everything looks normal. I have 2 32X's (one of which was brand new) and they both do the exact same thing. I do have the cable thaat goes from the 32X to the Genney and I've put it every which way but it still makes all my genney and sega cd games look like they only display bright red colors. I've also made sure that the cables are firmly in but it doesn't help. Any ideas?
 
I have two too... I got them when I was purchasing lots of used Genesis games off of ebay. I pretty much hate the system. It might be the only system I have that I want to play absolutely nothing on.
 
The 32X is a fucking mess. Back in wanning days of Sega fandom, I bought a new one on the cheap and realized that right out of the box, it didn't work. So I got another one, also dirt cheap, and it too didn't work. I asked around and my solution was... get this.... keeping the system on for 24 hours to let the connectors expand due to heat. And it actually worked. The point of my story is that you never know with that system. Sorry if this doesn't help much...
 
Sega had major problems with 32x, selling them being the major one. For what its worth my screen used to black with the 32X on. Never fixed it though i reckon its a connection problem.

I buy a lot of junk that's gaming related, but you will not see me rushing out to pick up a 32X.

Garbage, do as above poster suggested.
 
I have a 32x and a SEGA CD addon for the Genesis as well. I bought them later of course, not to play games or anything! But because they reminded me of LEGO when you connected them together!! :lol :lol
 
The OP would likely be better served posting this question at a board like Digital Press or Atari Age. Lots of older system owning people there who could help far more than the litany of "LOL you have a 32X" replies you're going to get here.
 
What model Genesis do you have? First one or the slimmer model (Genesis 2)? I was reading some of the old SEGABase articles offa goodcow's site recently, I remember they said that the cable they shipped with the 32x was initially only compatible with Genesis 2, and that they had to ship out replacements separately, if you wanted to use your 32x on an older system. So, I guess look on ebay or Digital Press msg boards, for the one you need, if you have an older Genny. Man, that thing was such a disaster. How well did it sell, even?

That's not true at all. I had a 32x hooked up to an original Genny and original Sega CD. It worked fine.

Oh, Gaming-Age, your helpfulness sometimes amazes even me.

Original poster: it sounds like you may have a loose contact on the 32X video port that links to the Genesis... especially since everything works fine if you only play 32X games or remove the system from the Genesis. Sounds to me like your cables and Genesis are fine.

I've been having a problem like that. Everything is all discolored when I play 32X games, like the blue Sega logo is green.


VF was good. Not worth playing now, but it was cool back then. And there's MK II. Not as good as the SNES version but it beats the Genesis one. DOOM was good back then if your PC sucked. A lot better than the SNES DOOM...
 
True story:

My friend and I broke out the 32x and some games a while back. After connecting everything together (a game in itself -- all those goddamn cords and jumpers and connectors), we tried it out only to find that none of our games worked. They'd either be unresponsive or crash a few seconds in.

The solution we found: open up the 32x and run a screwdriver along all the capacitors to discharge them. I had heard this solution somewhere a very long time ago, and lo and behold it worked like a charm.

A very poorly designed system, indeed.
 
I have one too. I bought it for Knuckles Chaotix. Funny thing is, I never got the chance to buy the game. So I ended up only owning Doom and Virtua Racing for it. The system isn't as bad as most people make it out to be. :)
 
There literally isn't one must-have game that exists only on the 32X. Between the Saturn and the SNES, almost everything on the system has been outclassed. It's a totally useless system, and I say that as a Sega fanboy. If I didn't get it for free, I wouldn't have gotten it. Now I have two of them and about 10 games for them that I never play. It's honestly a waste of space.
 
The only problem with hooking up the 32x was those damn metal plates that you had to stick into the Genny's cart slot. Getting them down in there correctly was a pain in the ass. But the cables and the like weren't a big issue at all.

In terms of games, yes, it sucked. Actually, the launch I didn't mind. I liked the Star Wars game even though most people hated it. Virtua Racing Deluxe was one I highly enjoyed. As it turns out, was probably the best game on the system. And Doom was at least fast and highly playable, even if it wasn't true 3D. The big problem was that in the weeks and months following launch, the games were a monster joke. Like really, really, really, really bad. I remember patiently waiting for metal head, or whatever the hell it was called. I was convinced it was going to be the game that really showed the system off.....and it was a giant turd of epic proportions. After that I had no trouble ditching my stuff for cash in order to purchase a PSX.
 
I had a simmilar problem as well, thought it was just my 32X, but the same thing happened with my Genny games too....hmmm...never could figure it out, a bad cable maybe??, I had the same problem while I was playing FF7 on my old coax tv, the image kept turning completely blue, eventually discovered the coax cable was about split in half :D
