Well that early fight didn't go long... Ward has strength for sure but he needs to develop a jab.

Now they are showing the Williams/Klitschko fight from last week which I refused to pay for..... how this fight made it as long as it did I have no idea. Vitali is one of the most awkward tall boxers I have seen in YEARS.... He has strength but good lord.... he looks awkward as hell in the ring...

Real curious to see how the main event goes... personally I think Glen like Danny is a bum... Tarver should make quick work of him.

EDIT:

My god that was terrible. Vitali spanked Danny's bum ass for 8 rounds....

Boxing, heavyweight boxing is in such a sad state. I think many lightheavyweights could go heavyweight and win titles over crappy guys like Ruiz and Byrd. Roy Jones Jr, De La Hoya, Holyfield, and Tyson's careers are completely over ... so now what is there? Bernard Hopkins is pound for pound the best boxer in the world. Shane Mosely can't beat anyone anymore. Tarver should dominated, but who knows anymore. Whoever has more 'name' power hasn't been winning fights and a lot of people are looking like jokes. A lot of people need to hang up the gloves because they can't cut it anymore.

I can't wait to see Tarver get his ass busted. He looks kind of shook in the locker room...

My son even mentioned that just now before he passed out.... 'He looks scared Daddy!'

Klitchko. I will never understand these guys. They have no stamina! WTF?! You're boxers. Run muhfukka! Stairmaster. Something? I get tired of heavy weight fighters that have no stamina. At least throw some punches. I mean, I know they hurt when they land, but there's like a 4% chance that that'll even happen.

Anyway, bring on the main event!

EDIT: :lol at both Tarver and Johnson having knocked out Roy Jones in the past, and Jones calling the fight. How embarassing.

Shane Mosely can't beat anyone anymore.

He gets good looks, but has no strength.

" At least throw some punches. I mean, I know they hurt when they land, but there's like a 4% chance that that'll even happen."

Vitali's probably one of the more active heavyweights I've seen in some time. And accurate to boot. It's a little tougher to throw lots of punches when you've gotta move 250 pounds around constantly.

Thank goodness the weight classes below heavyweight have had such good fights this year... the heavyweight division IS dead....

So far Johnson is using the same gameplan against Jones... Tarver hasn't done much first round.

I like how Johnson isn't letting Tarver get that jab out. All this activity is quite a contrast to the last bout.

Mayweather Jr. should be the next big thing in boxing. I can't think of anyone else worth watching.

I hate Tarver, I hope Johnson(?) knocks him out the ring.

Good point.

Tarver much more active in this second round.. Johnson started slow in that round but started to pick the pace back up.

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
Because I fought him, he doesn't have to work construction anymore. That's a blessing from God through me - Roy Jones :lol

"That looks like what he did to YOU Roy"

"Johnson is on pace to do what he did to Roy Jones"

"This is the same strategy against you, right Roy?" - Lampley

Holy Fuck this is comedy

Umm Johnson is getting dominated this round just in terms of combinations hitting.

:lol @ Jones' response and deepening of the voice when posed w/ the question:

'Who of these two would you want to fight?'

WTH? Tarver taking a break here in Round 4. Pickin the pace back up now. As active as he was in the 2nd half and especially the closing of the round he probably got that one too.

Peace out Tarver...

Maybe not...

Does Tarver ever counter?

Nice round for Johnson... Tarver was never really hurt in this round(5) but he's definitely taking a break.

I'm not sure how hurt he was... at first I thought not at all... but I think he was hurt a bit in that round...

Let's see what happens at the beginning of 6.

Tarver MUCH more active right from the beginning of 6.

EDIT:

Tarver's got this fight on lock IF it goes to 12 and he continues to box as he has the last few rounds...

Coco the just showed a Tarver counter. ;)

... and Tarver's taking a break in Round 10.

So Johnson get's round 10... Tarver better have enough energy to fight these last 2 rounds.

That was definitely NOT a knockdown.... Tarver in trouble at the end of 11 nice work by Johnson at the end.... Can he hold on!?!?!??!

He slipped.

Decision.

Johnson isn't exploiting Tarver's post-flurry fatigue at all.

Yup and Tarver was just WAY too tired at the beginning of this final round when he hurt Johhson to be able to pounch on him.

Much better fight than I expected.... Much more respect for Johnson. I already knew he had a chin, now I also see he's got great endurance.... whomever the loser is... that person should not fade away.

WOW JOHNSON GETS THE WIN, INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

Wow...

I would've given it to Tarver personally.

Roy must feel like a sucka! They both knocked his bitch ass out.

He got a thick-ass accent.

'Lawd ha Murcy!

'By Da Beeeech'

Gotta love his wife there by his side. Good to see.

I really hope this is Roy's last year w/ HBO and comentating in general... I thought George Foreman's incessant smiling was a nuissance... Roy looks like he has some serious attitude issues compared to how he was when he first started.

Great fight, can't wait for the inevitable rematch.

I agree Coco I'd take Foreman over Jones anytime... Roy's cocky smile drives me crazy... you have no reason to be cocky anymore Roy... you lost to BOTH of these guys!

^^

Thank you!

Take a slice of that humble pie homeboy.

The Trinidad/Mayorga fight is still the best toe-to-toe I've seen this year.

I missed that fight... for me I think Morales/Barrera 3 was my favorite this year.

I thought Tarver won it myself...oh well. Good fight. Tarver probably shouldn't have made it so obvious that he was taking round 10 off.

As for Roy commentating, I thought they would have brought in Emmanuel Steward to at least save some face for Roy. Instead they made him commentate a fight where both fighters KHTFO. If I was him, i would have just called in sick.

Overall, I don't think Roy is necessarily a bad commentator. I'll admit though his pre and post game comments are weak. However, his analysis during the fights is spot on many times. On several occasions I remember him calling out knockdowns 3 rounds in advance. He does a great job reading the fighters, he can more accurately tell when a fighter is tired, hurt, or playing possum compared to Lamply and Merchant.

As for the sad state of boxing, it is indeed sad. There's really no one to believe in anymore, except maybe Tito. But the way things are going, I bet Tito suffers a disappointing defeat next year.

The lower weight categories are definitely more exciting, but many of them still lack the name recognition.

As for heavyweights, Jermaine Taylor looks promising, but he's taking his sweet time before he challenges a major opponent. All the other prospects have fizzled out. Remember just a little over a year ago, Joe Mesi and Dominic Gwin were touted to shake up the heavyweight division? Instead Mesi was exposed for having a weak chin and is now somewhat semi-retired because he might have brain damage. Gwin proved he didn't have the heart to be a real heavyweight champion anytime soon. Bah.

But yeah we still had some good fights this year. The Tito v. Mayorga fight was by FAR the fight of the year. It was the best fight in many years. I may try to get that fight on tape. That's surely going to be a classic.

You would have been better off to do so. Do you realize what tends to happen when you bump an old thread?

Yes I'm quoting myself, but I was right....ugh.

Anyway, good fight tonight. Tarver really went to work. Though I started getting nervous for him in the 11th round. He was hanging on to dear life.

You should have been believing in Winky Wright, broseph. I don't know whether that fight was more of A) showing how overrated Trinidad is or B) showing how good Wright is.

If you're looking for fighters to believe in, Winky's one of them. Ricky Hatton, too. Though, I wish he'd fight outside of England for a change.

Also, I know you said this more 6 months ago...

As for heavyweights, Jermaine Taylor looks promising, but he's taking his sweet time before he challenges a major opponent.

...but Jermain Taylor is a middleweight :p

Heh, yeah I cringed when I read it. But I didn't feel like editting a 6 month old post. :)

Anyway, I might actually order the Hopkins vs. Taylor fight next month. It would be the first PPV fight I buy this year.

Ricky 'the hitman' hatton is the best boxer at the moment and the heavyweight division has been dying a slow death for years.
