BURBANK, CA – July 10, 2020 – HBO Max announced today that it has given a series commitment to an original DC drama set in the Gotham City police department from The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves, Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, The Batman producer Dylan Clark, and Warner Bros. Television. The groundbreaking television series to be written by Winter is set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series provides an unprecedented opportunity to extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham. This marks the first television project for Reeves under his recently announced overall deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group.

Matt Reeves said, “This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.”

Guy who created Boardwalk Empire is running the show and writing it.

It's going to be really awkward keeping this show around after the Snyder fans cyberbully Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson into abandoning their Batman movie.

Given how bad the movie looks... you might want to wait a second before tying yourself to the anchor with a chain.

It's also kind of interesting how many universes there are. It's the Matt Reeves one, not the Justice League Batman one which is kind of still going with other characters, and definitely not the Batwoman one.

I appreciate the room for all the different artistic interpretations, but it might be getting a little confusing to the average customer, who needs to figure out which universe they're in, to sit down and enjoy a Batman thing.

I can understand TV Flash and movie Flash. It's when there's multiple movie universes, and multiple TV universes, there starts to be a problem.

WB/HBO showing a lot of faith in this Reeves Batman. Definitely a bit of a gamble to greenlight this before the public have even seen a trailer for the movie. I guess they're confident that they have a hit on their hands.

So Gotham, a TV series that follows Jim Gordon and the GCPD and the turn from Mafia run city into a city full of crazies has just finished, ......and they want to do a new TV show that follows the GCPD, ...wait, come on.

This is on HBO from the creator of Boardwalk Empire. So it'll be quite a different thing than Gotham.
