I still think this is a pointless series.

The books have been adapted. Everyone knows the story. I know there is an argument that this series will be more faithful, but don't kid yourself into thinking they won't add new story arcs and scenes that will differ from the books. Always happens.

What they could have done is created a brand new story in the same world. Make it in a different time period, set it in a different school etc. They had the chance to create something brand new and interesting, but here we are. A third retelling of the same story.

Fantastic Beasts not doing great put them off trying something else different (even though it was Hollywood's shit writing that did for it).

They have been given two other magic schools on a plate, that anyone mildly interested in the franchise would recognise.

They could also make up any colour-skinned or hairstyle wielding school by setting it in different places. They could even have used juju and djinn.

But no. It has to be a ruination of the original work.

Harry Potter isn't for you anymore. It's for the kids who think the original Harry Potter movies are too old to watch. Snape is colorless for the demo they're targeting.
Too old? M8 when was the last time you watched em? We do a run through pretty much every year around Halloween to Xmas so they're still fresh in my mind and from Prisoner of Azkaban they still look pretty damn good, first two have dated, especially the first one but man Alfonzo's 3rd movie is pretty fucking timeless

I aged out before they hit. I saw the first one and it felt like it was 10 years too late for me.

I know Lithgow isn't British but there has been a huge antitrans swing in UK politics recently with everyone in power siding with JK Rowling's stance

Just today the Scottish football association banned anyone not "born biologically female" from playing women's football

It's crazy to see it shift so quickly following a court case that Rowling promoted and funded.

The prime minister himself is shitting on trans people all of a sudden.

Too bad Rowling never really continued with a popular series. A Harry Potter:The Next Generation series seems like it would have been a massive success rather than the oddball things she has done. Maybe she has preserved the series by not killing it with really inferior sequels or her creative well has just run dry.

She wrote the fantastic beast screenplays, I thought the first film was pretty great, but the series as a whole didn't do well with fans at all, they recently rebranded the whole "wizarding world" franchise back to "Harry Potter" due to the failure of the last film, she also co-wrote the script for the play which is, well, pretty terrible.

I think it's a situation similar to Star Wars, where the original author doesn't care about a lore that does not exist yet, and often pull mcguffins out of their arse for plot reasons, but enough time passes and it all becomes strict cannon lore in the mind of fans, so if the author tries to come back 10-20 years later, and goes about writing their usual mcguffins again, the fans go wild as it breaks 20 years of the lore they've accepted, so it's a no win situation coming back to it.

Plus she churns out some pretty epic detective novels which are quite good.

Good. You almost never, if at all, see 'female to male' going into the upper echelons of physical competitive male sports and dominating them left and right.

It's just men showing women it's "still a man's world" when they invade women's spaces and dominate them.

It seems to be pretty much the same phenomenon as when Trump took office and all these corporations and big companies started getting rid of DEI and all that stuff.
