He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe: Dragon Pearl Of Destruction - reveal trailer

The pixel art looks very good, would have fit in nicely from Capcom or Konami back in the day. Maybe they will toss in She-Ra too? 2D He-Man with no TV restrictions of violance and actually hitting people with his sword ;)

Last Masters of the universe game I played was on Intelivsion and C64.

This wave of 2D games is amazing. What a time..

This is 80'stastic! :)

There was a He-Man game on the Atari 2600. I kept getting killed when I tried to play it. There is some trick to playing it.
I forgot about that one. It's also on the Intellivision. It's the one with the wind raider ship. It's similar to defender if I remember right. Not what I call a shining example of the property, lol.

DAY1!!!

1980s childhood nostalgia overload. There has never been a He-man game before has there?

It uses the original He-man and Tela battle gear not that "H" symbol they added later. Awesome. Also no Kevin Smith bs feminism to ruin it.

This is going to be so fun! Hopefully there is some upgrade mechanics and its not just a golden axe clone. Not that I don't like GA, but I really liked the newer Double Dragon Gaiden and Streets of Rage 4. Maybe something like the dnd Shadow over Mystara could work too.

There actually *was* a mobile game of He-Man. 2D sidescrolling action game. Wasn't that bad actually.

I was talking to my brother Solarstrike Solarstrike recently about it being strange that many of our 80s cartoons haven't had proper home console video games. Voltron(there was a mobile game and it was just "ok), Thundercats,
M.A.S.K., Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Battle of the Planets, Inhumanoids, Silverhawks, etc.

Either the I.P.s are asking for too much money or they're simply not thought of by game developers/publishers out there. If done right, those *could* be incredible game experiences IMO.

I actually kind of like Go-Lion more than Voltron. It is more violent. I wish there was an English dub. They only subtitled it.

They better use the classic theme as well and not some modernized bullshit version. Be great if they use a lot of the old school sound effects too. If nothing else have an option for the classic sound effects.

Also, RIP John Erwin, voice of He-Man , who died last December.

I'm in just for the "legs all day long" Teela!

I'm still waiting on a proper tactics/X-com G.I. Joe game.

I think Mattel or Hasbro or whoever just won't even look at these IPs for anything less than a ludicrous amount of $$$, so no way some indie/small dev can get it just to do some good work. Or if they do, ALL their budget went to secure the IP and there is nothing left to make an actual game.

The let Maple Powered Games, a small indie studio make a pixel art game based on G.I. Joe. Hasbro also owns Power Rangers and they gave a Digital Eclipse a license to make a pixel art brawler. That's a small studio with two dozen employees. Afaik, no big money changed hands (Hasbro might even have funded it), they struck some sort of deal and seem keen on farming out the IPs judging by an interview I listened to with on of the DE devs.

Letting a small developer make a relatively cheap nostalgia bait can pay off handsomely. Like the success of Tribute's Turtles: Shredder's Revenge.

Heck yes, I'm in.

Is it sad that I am now WAAAAAAAY more hyped for this game than for the forthcoming live action movie?

Hope that film can nail the feel of MOTU for me. Adventure. Excitement. Homoeroticism :P

They need to make an RPG based on the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. Make it the final episode of the cartoon.
WOTC has FINALLY started showing these characters in art, not to mention the little nod in the DnD movie, plus I see a lot of them featured on shirts and stuff, as well as that toy line. So wouldn't surprise me at all if we get them in a game. The recent comic was...ehhhh, as they gotta force Sheila to the front over Hank. Plus the kids are canonically VERY young, like 14-15, so they are stuck with aging everyone up, including Bobby (who mysteriously stays a short person for some reason) or they gotta deal with the rule34 crowd in uncomfortable ways.

The cartoon did have an ending, but it was never animated. They can easily make a final episode or just another story.
The cartoon was Gygax's pet project. So, it would be nice if they did something with it.

Do you know that some fans actually took it upon themselves to make the final animated episodes?! I was blown away!

"
Fans of the original Dungeons and Dragons cartoon created a fan-made finale called "Requiem" to provide a proper ending after the show was canceled on a cliffhanger. The fan-made project, using the official script by series writer Michael Reeves and a combination of existing animation and new voice work (including one original actor), was completed in 2020 and is available online, though its quality is variable.

The Original Cartoon's Cliffhanger

  • The 1980s animated series Dungeons and Dragons ended abruptly in 1985 with a cliffhanger, leaving the characters' fate uncertain and the story open-ended.
The Creation of "Requiem"
  • Fans discovered that the official finale, "Requiem," was written by the series' writer but never aired.

  • In 2020, fans created a new version of this intended finale, making it a "proper" series finale.

  • They used existing animation from the show, a new voice cast, and the original script to bring the story to a conclusion.

  • One of the original voice actresses for the show even reprised her role for the fan-made episode.

Can't wait for the day 90's and newer cartoons get beat em up games too...any day now...

Anyways, will get this.
Finally a He-Man game! Day one for sure!

Hope we get a bigger 3d action adventure game eventually like Darsiders/Stellar Blade or better yet a full blown giant RPG like Witcher 3/4.

Love He-Man Revelation and Revolution plus the 1980s movie and started watching the original 1980s animated series bit by bit.
Thoughts on the 2021 He-Man show?

They had a whole rebooted series making a whole new He-Man story...and released it at the same year as the Kevin Smith one so 99% of people only paid attention to the sequel to the 80's cartoon while the new show got ignored...mostly.

It did still get 3 seasons, different universe so there are some changes like Prince Adam being kidnapped as a baby and shenanigans leading to him being raised in a tribe far from his kingdom, Adam doesn't even know he's a prince for a bit, his sword also doesn't just give him and his cat a power up form, but every one of his allies and friends gets a spiffy super form too.

...And Skeletor copies that when making his own Dark Masters Of The Universe:

MotU has long been one of my favorite properties out there since I was a young child. Owned the toys back in the day, and own literally every single vintage toy from the line now too, including the massive Eternia playset.

While this is amazing, and I honestly thought I'd never see the day, I can't help but feel like Masters of the Universe deserves more. A full-fledged open world action RPG with the whole cast of characters and vehicles and stuff would be completely amazing. I know this is all we're going to get before I end up in the dirt, but let it be known that it could've been so much more!

I had an embarrassing amount of MOTU plastic as well. Never a girl figure that I recall though, my sisters barbies had to stand in for those.

Those toys were awesome. Big, chunky, heavy plastic. They could take a BEATING in the sand pit. The vehicles were cool, the minicomics were dope. Just everything was peak form.

GI Joe stole me away eventually and their shit was amazing as well. I look at the sad state of kids toys today (shit for kids, not 'collectibles' made for adults to display) and the quality is just dogshit. Fragile cheap plastic, poor molds, no creativity. No wonder kids don't buy toys anymore.
