Wondering if anyone could help me with a slight problem I'm having with using headphones on my pc.

If I plug my headphones in, sound still keeps playing out of my PC speakers until I quit out of every program that's playing sound and re-open them. Like if I have a twitch stream open, I can't just plug them in and go or even close the tab or refresh it, I actually have to close firefox then go back to get the headphones to play sound.

Anyone had a similar problem and know a fix for this?

Must be a spider fucking with your headphone.

Could it be your headphone driver? Or is your headphone just plug and play?

Just plug and play it seems. They're Beats Detox edition, which a buddy of mine in Afghanistan purchased for me because apparently they're super cheap on base where he was stationed.

Where are you plugging the headphones in? What are you currently using as an audio device?

Windows is likely seeing it as a separate audio device and it will not automatically switch to it until you've closed anything sending sound to the previous device.

Its not really a "problem" your computer can receive audio from multiple sources at once (I can voice chat with headphones while listening to music on my speakers)

When you change the audio device while a window is open, yes its going to think you want to have audio split up. Dunno.

A Windows 8.1 Laptop I looked at today had this exact issue. When I went to the sound playback devices list as follows:

There were 2 entries. They were both the same, but the default one was only playing through laptop speakers, when I switched it to the other one headphones worked and switched whenever headphones were plugged/unplugged. Set it as default, removed other device. Voila.

Check the device playback menu and see if there are any other options you can try.

I have this problem, but only with Firefox on Windows 8. Chrome switches over as soon as headphones are plugged in, Firefox doesn't.

Yeah it seems to actually only be firefox. Spotify auto-switches to headphones when plugged in.

And the headphones are set as default.
