What’s peoples problems with Pick Up Trucks?

And virtually zero downtowners who work at snazzy offices and live in nearby glass condos with cramped parking spots will be driving a pick up either. Those big ones wouldnt even fit in their parking spot.
Oh, but they try. Between oversized trucks and monster soccer mom SUVs, I'm glad I drive a compact because I'm often the only one that can fit between these brutes in my works parking garage. I wanna go even smaller with a miata but then I couldn't even see over the TIRES of these beasts, much less aorund them in traffic. Might even be able to see UNDER a few jacked-up trucks.

Every now and then I see a classic car like a 60's mustang and WOW, those things were small. Not sure if bigger cars was a response to fatter americans or a technological thing to fit more shit into the cockpit. Be interesting to see if EVs with all-in-one touch screens will lead to smaller vehicles again once they can evolve independently of ICE designs. Like that box shaped robotaxi that has rear facing front seats.

When I lived in a condo way back, the guy next to me dinged my door and he drove a normal car. Like any shared parking layouts, it's rare anyone can wildly swing open their doors fully. Although it can be doable if someone has a reasonably sized car it's a bigger Costco spot or by luck the guy next to you parked his car edged away from your line. But good luck having a large truck/SUV open its door in a condo lot.

I've never sat in a small car like a Miata. I have a feeling a porker like me would be cramped. lol

My old coworker bought a hummer and lived in a condo. I never asked what it was like. Probably shit parking it everywhere because he sold it 2 years later.

There are just too many damn people with trucks that never use them for truck things. Clogging up parking lots, double parking, and drunk driving because they give no fucks because they are in a giant ass truck.

I honestly prefer trucks over anything else, just wish they weren't so fuckin expensive. I had one that went the way of the dodo last year, and I miss having one pretty bad; they're just so handy up here in the frozen north. If they were the same price as cars I'd never buy a car, just trucks only.

Suburbs are full of people driving massive vehicles that don’t get used for anything but groceries or commuting. This isn’t really that big of a deal everywhere but when you get closer to cities it can be a pain (crowded parking, narrow lanes, pedestrians, etc.)

Not the end of the world either way.

I actually like the smaller kei trucks they have in japan. I could see myself using it around the yard

Pickup trucks? Those are cool.

A regular Dodge Ram pickup with Monster Truck tires, six gaping exhaust pipes vomiting black smoke, trashy NRA and Rebel Flag stickers, driven by a guy with a 3" penis and an IQ to match who drives like he's in a McLaren...those guys can go truck themselves.

You literally can say the same thing about cars. We see people with BMW’s and Benz’s do the same shit.

Come on

Lots of people get unfairly categorized based on the vehicle they drive. I drive a Prius, and people assume I'm doing it because I care about the environment (I don't) or because I'm weak or effeminate (I'm not). Turns out, I just enjoy spending only $20 a month in gas to get to work and back easily.
My Honda Fit that was my commute car died. Unfortunately, I replaced it with another jeep. One jeep gets about 12 mpg and the other 18. My wallet has noticed. On the plus side, people give me rubber duckies. 🦆🦆🦆

Not all people drive one because not everyone needs one or wants to drive a huge vehicle.

Also, pending where someone lives it's not even practical.... downtown, apartment/condo parking spot, street parking, small driveway or garage
That is totally fair and I don’t dispute it but I didn’t say drive, I said like. I can add clarity if needed as that wasn’t my intention

No need. I get peoples point about trucks.

Really comes down to preference and functional need too.

Big trucks have advantages. In bad snow they’ll travel way better. Most people driving luxury sedans won’t even drive it in snow. It’ll be locked up in a garage with their performance tires. They’ll drive it only if they have to or it’s the only car they have and then switch to winter tires in Nov or Dec.

Yep, the trick is to have one of each.

I like pickup trucks - especially in rural settings, like midwest towns where I grew up. Very useful, and practical. If I move back, I'll most likely buy one for myself.

But in the area that I live in - NYC area - I can't see myself driving one. Streets are narrow, parking spaces are tiny and also garages charge more for bigger vehicles etc... and unless you are hauling materials and tools (like private builder/contractors) - I just don't see any use for myself.

Because they are huge, inefficient, don't have good mileage and most people don't actually use it to pick stuff up.

I'm in the UK and the big ones like the Fords that are here are strictly for posers. Anyone who wants to move anything has a Van, or (like me) just hires a van as and when - my Hatchback dows just fine for anything like a tumble dryer, etc. Real workmen use a pro proper vehicle

For big US pick ups, the size is impractical, don't fit into parking spaces, down roads, etc and the view is particularly bad so a danger to pedestrians.

The milage is really poor as well.

The Ford F150 is the best selling car in the US, don't think all of them are thinking about the practicality if it, and it's just cultural at this point.

I swear that they got bigger because rules to regulate cars sensibly basically forces these vehicles into the Truck 🚛 category. They aren't cars, they are luxury lorries that existed out of a loophole. It also means smaller pick ups (with same size bed) aren't sold anymore. This truck has a bigger bed than the F150.

Get one if you want one, but don't pretend you don't know why people find them ridiculous.

The one on the right's drivetrain will fall off if it tries to tow above 12,000lbs. Not bashing it, they're cool little trucks, especially love seeing them at car meets, but things are designed for practical usage.

Moms here in the US drive massive SUVs to take their kids to school

And they sure don't drive $150k Shelbys :)

This is a American trend.i hear its a status symbol for our friends across the pond.maybe I'm wrong?
Here in the UK pickup trucks are usually owned by some business owners for tax reasons. (You can invest in a truck or van for your business instead of giving your hard earned money to the tax man)

Uk is range Rover mums/ divorced wives with half of ex hubby money. or what I call them pretentious arseholes.

Or BMW wankers lol.

For me living in the UK, having a true American muscle car is my goal. Dodge challenger would do nicely

Here we just make fun of the downtown city guy that lives in a condo, never saw a cow, a hay bale or moved one bag of cement and own a F-450

The kind of guy that hear country music and think he's John Dutton while siping a latte in the traffic jam.

That said, my family had a construction business and we use to own a truck or two. Miss the old indestructible 2005 Toyota Hilux.

This reads like the post of someone who is always the first to ask for someone’s truck to move and expects them to drive for them too

Different people have different needs. My best friend has a truck like the left, and he has two dogs, lots of tools, and tows stuff regularly. The right truck is convenient, but isn't suited to tow anything big

They're really too big for UK roads and they're popping up everywhere now. Where I live, they'll straddle both lanes, usually because the driver is terrible and has barely any lane discipline. Then you encounter them on single-lane roads and they're unwilling to yield, despite having the burden of responsibility to do so, plus the massive fucking wheel clearance and supposed off-road chops to move over onto a grass verge to make enough space for both vehicles to pass.

Basically worse versions of people who buy land-rovers and SUVs because they've got 2 dogs and a cheating husband.

One thing about big truck guys too which is a pisser.

My neighbour is a great guy, but only thing he used to do that irked me when he had a pick up was drive diagonally across our shared strip of grass and across my driveway, and sometimes guns it over the curb too. I park in the garage. But he does this because it's easier to get out since going down his driveway and turning normally can be a cramped pain in the ass.

So what happens is that strip of grass gets mangled up, and dirt/mud get tracked by his pick up treads on my end of the driveway and curb. Same goes for snowy days. He'd drive over the snow not giving a shit. And what happens when you drive over snow? It gets packed in and hard to shovel. So I can get similar snow marks from his truck on my driveway.

People driving cars dont do that shit running over curbs and mashing dirt and mud.

we don't care about no dirt and pansy ass grass at the worksite, why should he care about his pussy neighbors driveway? man up and grow a pair, real men drive where they want, and don't follow beta cuck rules.

That's ok.

Sometimes he asks if he can use my driveaway for overnight parking because when people stay over his driveway has no room. I park in the garage all the time so of course I got space.

But sometimes I cant be bothered and say I got someone coming over too or I'm out right now and coming home late so cant. So someone is forced to do street parking. He'll park on the street overnight and has got a ticket before. lol

Being from the UK, makes sense you have no idea what you're talking about. The truck beds might be near the same length, but they are not the same size. And you sure as hell aren't hauling the same amount, in weight or volume, in that little truck. Never mind the fact those things don't have airbags. They're fine if you're in an area where you're driving at very slow speeds, but if you think that's a replacement for a full size truck, you're wrong. You're asking to get into a fatal accident in that thing.

This video is a Ford Ranger (mid size American truck) vs one of those tiny trucks. Take a guess what happens.

The gas mileage on current trucks, full-size included, is actually really impressive. An F-150 V6 with a 2.7L engine gets 26mpg on the highway. That's not far off from my wife's 4 cylinder Toyota Rav4. All trucks have been steadily improving their gas mileage as part of improved fuel economy standards. So, you're wrong there. And they're only going to keep improving over time. Not to mention Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Rivian, etc. all have EV models now.

Gas mileage aside, most of these trucks are mechanically proven and reliable. There's been some down years here and there for the major truck companies, but by and large, they just last a long time. It's not unusual at all to see 30+ year old trucks on the road, still being used for work.

Same reason as BMW's. It's the type of driver those vehicles attract.
it's not exactly the same because trucks cover a much larger spectrum, you have people like dads with kids or contractors driving real nice ones upwards of 100k or you have hicks without mufflers, playboy decals driving 5k shitboxes jacked up on huge wheels and confederate flags playing monster truck rally up and down your street. not saying there aren't plenty of bmw douche bags / coolguy types, but it's a smaller vertical slice of society.

the closest I can think of with bmws are people i've known to get the cheapest base model for reasons like when they go and pick up their kids at soccer, other parents won't keep their kids away, compared to some kid with an m8 who lives out of his car.

There is nothing wrong with trucks. Their great. My F150 gets better gas milage than the little Hyaundai Tucson my daughter drives. I can fit all three kids comfortably and load the bed up with luggage for vacation. I live in western PA in the country. I have 4wheel drive for snow and can haul things for house repairs.

People that say no one should have them are cat lady's in apartments with no kids or too broke to afford one and are jealous.

It's the guys that have to mod the mufflers to be LOUD AS FUCK, add an extra set of tires to each axle, and plume giant clouds of black smoke out the exhaust that I particularly do not care for. Also, they take up 2 parking spaces wherever they go.
