Headphones volume too low with Bluetooth when connected to TV, also audio delay with Xbox

Ok, so here's the thing.

I have a great new pair of headphones and I would like to connect them to my Sony A95K TV via Bluetooth. This works fine, except that the volume is strangely low. I have to put it at max and even then it's just not too great. I've looked in the settings of my TV but nothing seems to improve this. Anything have an idea? Oh and I tried multiple headphones/sets and earbuds, same story.

And then this, so it's connected to the TV and I have my Xbox connected via HDMI to the TV as well. So when I'm on Xbox I hear the audio, however there's a significant audio delay. I don't have this delay when I just use streaming apps on my TV and listen with the headphones. I'm assuming it's because the headphones connects straight to the TVs Bluetooth and since Xbox doesn't have that (which I really dislike) the delay is caused by HDMI cable? Anything I can do about that?

I can play a game like Powerwash Simulator 2, I don't mind a delay that much but for example a game like Kingdom Come.....no way.

Bluetooth headphones and latency is pretty much expected. but also using anything that is not Stereo can introduce lag on consoles.

when I had 3D audio on on PS5 and tried to play Hifi Rush, I thought I was going crazy, because I could for the life of me not hit anything on beat.
I previously extensively played the game on Xbox, where I had no issue.

then I went into the latency test and noticed how out of sync the audio was.
switching to stereo fixed it instantly.
I assume the same is true on Xbox as well, which I had set to Stereo when I played Hifi Rush on it.

I have a Sony TV. You want to connect the headphones, go to sound settings, volume level, bump up audio levels there if needed and most importantly change the dynamic range to compressed.

As for the delay, unfortunately I think that is just Xbox being shit at bluetooth on purpose to push their proprietary encoding because using official Xbox headphones using the Xbox headset protocol works just fine.

Ok, so I checked a few things.

Audio input : audio system, tv speakers

I kept this at audio system, but perhaps changing that to TV speakers for BT headphones use is better?

Digital audio out volume is at max
Dolby Digital Plus output is Dolby Digital Plus and I can change that to Dolby Digital. I probably best leave this be.

Then in the sound section

Sound mode : Dolby audio, I can change this to standard, dialog, cinema etc.

Volume level in the sound section is in the middle. Dolby dynamic range is compressed, can change that to standard.

So those settings are fine, and sadly putting volume level at max didn't change a thing. Hmm.

With volume basically at max it's doable, but something isn't right.

OP, I have a LG C2 and game on PS5 :
When connecting my BT headphones directly to the TV both audio delay AND volume is great when watching YT/whatever through the TV's in-built apps.

NOW, with the same headphones connected to the TV AND having turned my PS5, there's both bigger/much more perceptible audio lag AND the much lower volume...

The solution ? you have to put both the PS5 AND the TV to output to linear PCM via their sound options : PS5 into linear PCM (that means no Dolby digital, no Dolby Atmos, no DTSX and the TV to uncompressed, that is, not "bitstream".

For me it's weird since Digital formats are compressed compared to LPCM so it's the ones that should lag but maybe it's their processing which takes resources resulting in audio lag...

Another "weird" thing : I CAN have the TV playing in "game mode" if I do the weird combo of "bitstream" on my TV and LPCM on my PS5 (the only way to connect BT headphones while also staying in game mode) but, this mismatch also introduces heavy-ish audio lag.

On PS5 I'll circumvent this by using a USB BT Aptx adaptive adapter (headphones also support Aptx adaptive/LL) plugged to my PS5 but you can't do that on Xbox so...

Anyway, put the settings on both the TV and Xbox to output to linear PCM and you should be good to go regarding the low volume, as for the audio lag...I guess you'll have to see.

Cheers
