Thermalright and Zalman make excellent Heatsinks. The best CPU heatsink currently available is Thermalright's XP120:

Unfortunately, it won't fit on all motherboards. They also sell a slightly smaller model, the XP90.

How the hell do you attach a fan to that? o_O

It's made to use a 120mm fan (bigger fan = less noise). If it works like the thermalright HS I've got, it uses wire clips that fit into the side of the HS and go over the fan. They look flimsy, but hold it on quite securely.

That thing seems like overkill, am I wrong? Do I really need a 120MM fan on my processor? Also, with as big and tall as it is, isn't the weight of it going to put stress on the motherboard?

For extra cheapness take the AlCU version, last time I checked the difference with the all copper version is minimal.

I'm happy with the stock heatsink/fan though, almost inaudible with CnQ while working under Windows and good enough to cool my 3000+ @ 2.4GHz under full load.

I've got a Thermaltake Volcano 12+ (Venus is the Athlon 64 equivalent) arriving tomorrow from an Ebay dude ($40cdn shipped). :D
