It's petty, but it's because the Battle of Super Earth was an Attrition mechanic, like tug of war.

It wasn't accurate in the description in Chinese and it made it appear that reaching 100% would liberate the city, so when it didn't happen, they cried foul and felt like they were railroading the narrative arc and their *enormous* efforts didn't matter.

I say enormous, because the a
H2 equivalent city of China was in danger od falling 3 times and all 3 times they stopped it.

No other city aside from prosperity was able to stay standing. They were that coordinated and when it didn't happen like it was described, they got upset.

And I thought the average western gamer was already stupid....

Well, obviously they've sort of caught up to us in both the good and the bad, lol. Digital platforms are obviously increasingly reflecting complicated global realities. This isn't just a Steam store issue; even f.ex. Wallpaper Engine (which has integrations with the same Steam population) is affected, with an influx of Chinese (and Russian) culturally specific, often patriotic, content filling up the lists making it hard to browse (to be fair to them; it used to be opposite). My localized Steam account pop-list isn't much better; the FIFA crowd isn't representing my taste either.

TLDR; It would be nice to have custom (perhaps AI driven) filters in the Steam store to better escape knee-jerk trends, politics and culture.

I said it when Black Mid Wukong came out and won every "player's choice GOTY" by a landslide and set sales records, the industry and the publications and all that are not ready for China moving into the mainstream center of the market.
