Help me buy a gaming laptop GAF :D

Hey everybody,

I've been looking at laptops recently but I need help choosing one, as all the ones I've been looking at are simply too huge/heavy to bring to school on a daily basis (Read: Dell Inspiron 9300)

Basically, my budget is around the 1,500 range, and I’m looking for a screen from 12" to 14" (15" absolute max, anything bigger than that starts making bookbags that accommodate the large laptops hard to find)

I really want a video card that can at least play 3D games (like Doom 3 on super low settings and resolution), but it seems only the desktop replacement models have it.

I was personally looking at the Dell 700m which seems great (perfect size, I wouldn’t want anything smaller and a good battery life) But it has a WXGA screen (possible ghosting during games), and non-gaming video card (Intel Extreme Graphics) which really discourage a purchase.

In a nutshell, what I'm looking for is a small/thin/light notebook with a 12"-14" screen that can game (somewhat), have decent battery life (something like 2 hours isn't enough when I'm just taking notes) and within the ballpark of 1,500 dollars.

I’ve been researching notebooks and basically it seems all thin/light notebooks can’t game whatsoever and that’s why I’ve come to the large audience of GAF and seek advice =D

Thanks for those who reply

If your budget is $1500 and you want a gaming laptop, you're not going to have many options, and will likely be severly disappointed with what you buy.

Also all the gaming class laptops I've seen are heavy. My Alienware is over 10 lbs with the power brick, and you have to carry it in its own backpack. The battery life is only about 45 minutes, too. I got mine because I knew I'd be traveling/moving the next few years, and I wanted a desktop replacement notebook that would be easy to bring with me when I did go somewhere. It works great for that, but no way would I bring it around with me.

If you want something for school, forget about the gaming.

A good place to find out info on various gaming laptops is www.notebookforums.com, btw.
