My buddy and I want to play a co-op game with both of our own profiles. We have separate kits but he's over at my place now. We want to earn the Achievements on both Gamertags. We're going to use the Profile Recovery system to do this.

If he uses "Recover Gamertag from Xbox Live", will his save games on his kit be deleted? The Guide says they will be, but the MS Support page simply states they will not be carried across through the recovery (of course not).

That scared me off too. Easier to buy the Memory unit.

We were going to do that but after reading the Support page, thought we didn't need too. Now it's too late and we're paralyzed. He doesn't want to loose his FNR3 character that was molded in his image. :lol

We're trying this right now to test it:

1. Create a new passport account
2. Create a new Live-enabled profile on my kit, linked to that account
3. Save a game with that profile
4. Delete that profile (keep the save games though)
5. Recover the gamertag
6. Test to see if the Save Game is still valid/accessible once recovered

I'll let you know what happens.

Achievements are tied to your Live account, and all achievements are actually unlocked through Xbox Live. Once you unlock achievements on any system in any game, those same achievements should carry over through Xbox Live when you recover your profile.

Just remember, you can't unlock achievements twice.

We know we can both earn achievements if he's logged in. The problem is he might lose access to his save games on his kit once he recovers his profile when he goes back home.

Update: The experiment worked. After deleting the new profile and recovering it, the save games that existed for that profile are still valid.

Time for some co-op madness!

Update: Got home late last night feeling paranoid about recovering my gamer profile to someone else's 360... I needed to know that everything was ok locally on my kit despite the test we did earlier on Datawhores 360.

Anyways my Fight Night character was still there (the only save I really care about right now) and my career was not deleted despite the warning.

So you can rest assured knowing that if a time comes that you want to do some MAD coop gaming on the same system this is a safe procedure.

I can confirm that this method works, for anyone that's interested, I tested it today. So there's no need to buy a memory card to play at a friend's house with your Xbox Live account. Just recover it at your friend's house, and then recover it again when you're back home.
