sometimes when I get incredibly stressed like that, I just kinda kick back. Play some video games, get drunk, get a pizza and wake up in the morning and try again. Might wanna try it. :)

Agreed. I might be doing too much of that though.

I had serious problems with that throughout college. I couldn't concentrate on something boring and tedious for more then ten minutes. The best thing to do is to sit down somewhere where you can't wander off and do something else, like some corner in a library away from computers with internet access. :) Or if you have to study in your room, unplug all the shit that might distract you, or if it really comes down to it (like it did with me) don't even have a TV in your room.

I'm totally stressed out/burned out from school. I need some college tips plz kthnx.

Sit in the front row of every class. It will subconsciously motivate you to succeed, and keep you from falling asleep (most of the time).

Also, I used to study at the library, in a quiet section, because there are way too many distractions at home.

If tutors don't understand a professors particular methods, maybe you should discuss them with your professor during their office hours? I guess it depends on the university, but most of the professors I had were readily available and very helpful during their office hours. I remember my physics prof's office was packed with like 5-6 people every day, it was like a mini class session =)

If all else fails, hope and pray Brain Training makes it over here.. =)

Some people just arent ready for it straight out of highschool. Looking at it this way helped me. Your paying money to be there (maybe not you personally but the money is coming from somewhere), if you dont do the work your basically pissing it down the toilet. Its not like someone is forcing you to go either. Also remember that once your done with an assignment or a test or a class you never have to take it again in your life. You get one chance to do really well. Are you really going to miss the hour or so you spend studying?

Yea, in all seriousness, go to the library. A quiet place with no distractions. That's what I do when I need to get shit done. In fact, I'm about to go there for about the rest of the day. I try to be the definition of party hard, work hard. I'm seriously going to be there for about 7 hours or so. But tomorrow, I'll be playing games of pong and being a moron. You have to find a balance that works for you.

I'm horrible with procrastinating. I don't even bother trying to get work/studying done early anymore. If I try to I just end up constantly goofing off on the net, playing the air guitar to whatever cd I have in, or having my eyes constantly drift over to the tv. I was wasting hours doing this and still ending up doing everything at the last minute. The only thing that seems to be able to motivate me is knowing I'll be fucked the next day if I don't get off my ass and finally do something. I feel I do my best work under pressure anyway. Just make sure I have lots of energy drinks and excedrin for those long nights. The only thing I've been good at getting done early is research for papers... Then I wait until the very last second to write it.

Sucks about your Math Professor though. It's a gamble when signing up for classes. I've been pretty lucky so far with only a few duds.

If you are falling asleep while reading, you may have an eye problem. I'm not exactly sure what it is called, but it has something to do with your focus being out of whack.

I have the same thing, but only a mild case. They make eye drops to correct it. Maybe you should get your eyes checked, if you haven't done so in the past year.

This is ridiculous. Everything is a disorder these days. I have ADD. I have a hearing defiency. I have really really poor eye sight (thick ass glasses) related to something that happened when I was born. And now an eye problem that makes me fall asleep when I read? I don't feel this way when I read things I'm actually interested in!

:lol

You may not have it if you fall asleep when you read un-school related stuff, then.

If your biggest distraction is computers, you basically just need to find a quiet place with no computers around to study at.

I used to have the same problem, the internet was a huge distraction for me, and I never got any schoolwork done. I realized I had to change my work environment, so instead of going home after school every day, I walked straight to the park and did my schoolwork on the grass in warm weather.

Sometimes I did schoolwork with a group of friends who had the same classes, which is great because you avoid being distracted and you get help, too.

If it turns out you don't have a choice, and you have to do your work at home, do it in a room where you can focus. I liked to do mine in the kitchen or at our bar because it was quiet, there was always food nearby if I needed a break, and I didn't have to walk past the computer room or my games or a TV to get it.

Turn the TV and computer off. Whenever I had to type up a paper on my computer, I unplugged the modem.

And try to keep the mindset: "The sooner I get all of this done, the more free time I'll have later." Once you get used to disciplining yourself, and you develop good study habits, you probably won't need to eliminate distractions any longer -- you'll just learn to ignore them.

Addicted to the internet eh? Get a program called temptation blocker! It basically blocks program for a set number of hours and you can't do anything to unblock them. David Jaffe mentioned it in his blog but I have never used it myself.

go to classes.

fuck partying, fucking gaming-age. DO YOUR WORK.

Believe me, I know, I failed out my first year and now im at home and life is hell.

Good luck sir

You need to get one of those dentist tools that help hold mouths open, first of all. You need to kidnap some random chick with a burlap sack, and hide her in the trunk of your vehicle. Then take her to your dorm/apartment/house and fuck the shit out of that bitches plump little posterior, and then force her mouth open with the dentist tool and poor some cement down her whiny little mouth.

WTF????

I write note cards based on my notes while watching TV.
It keeps me awake and entertained while I study. So far I haven't made less than an A on an exam.

You just need to set a schedule and stick to it. That is what I did in college, for my masters, and at law school and I did fine at all of them.

First, make sure you have a calender. Second, take your syllabus for every class and map out every assignment, quiz, test, paper, etc. on the calender. Then, I would usually look on the calender and try and split up my studying into a few days. So if I had a Calc 3 test on October 20th, I would make sure to set aside at least the 18th and 19th to study for it. I would also obviously keep up with the readings each week and all the assignments. This was just my system and it may or may not work for you, but you obviously want to do well and that is the most important thing. You need to translate that desire into the next step.

Finally, try and take classes you enjoy. It is very hard to give your full attention to a class you hate. If you like the subject it is that much easier to study for.

Buy an organiser. Organise your time. Not just work but for daily stuff. Have plenty of fun but also work hard. Do work when you are supposed to. Don't overwork yourself and get burnt out. Don't have too much fun. The work side of university is easy provided you put some effort in. Much of it is skill based, so practice makes perfect.

I'm just accustomed to keeping everything stored in my databanks aka my brain. I've been doing it since Elementary school. I was never able to adjust to using planners in HS. :lol I still just remember my assignments.

But I did write all of my assignments and stuff from my syllabus in my planner this semester.

Well you are obviously not organized or motivated by yourself to do all of this stuf so I suggest sticking with the organizer. Just make a schedule that works for you and stick with it. Eventually everything will become second nature to you.

Good luck and don't give up. If you want it bad enough you will succeed.

I just bought four bottles of Focus Factor. It's the greatest thing ever to happen to my studying in college.

Granted these don't give me as much concentration as the 2-3 hour high from Ritalin, but overall I have more concentration. Once ritalin wears off, you crash. With this, I'm normal.

It has several precursors and nutrients to neurotransmitters.

ADD, which it sounds very much like you have (or malnutrition causing a severe lack of energy and consequently desire to succeed), is caused by an imbalance of these neurotransmitters.

It's also got stuff in it that will help maximize your brain's potential.

It is not a drug. It will not give you results in minutes. Although I suspect the Ginko Biloba or Siberian ginseng may do a little if you're not used to them. However over a few days you'll begin to notice stuff working better.
