So I am trying to set up my daughters ipod mini for a plane trip to see her grandparents

I have MP3s already on my comp that I want to transfer to the ipod mini

I installed the CD software and it said I already had iTunes (even though Im pretty sure I uninstalled it at some point in the past)

The install wizard said everything is done but I am afraid something is amiss..

For one thing, the screen on mini keeps flashing "Do not dissconnect" and everytime I try to start up iTunes, nothing happens..

The good news is that I can see the iPod Mini via windows explorer....it shows an IPOD F drive with four folders in it (calanders, contacts, ipod_control and notes)

Will I have any problems with my existing mp3s if I try to transfer them to the mini....I alread transferred one song but I am still getting that flashing prompt on the ipod....

So what should I do...

Re install itunes?

Thankx

OK...I'll try that....

I am trying to reinstall itunes because it wont work from the start menu...

So will I have any problems with non-encrypted mp3s??

I got the stuff from soulseek...

Are you using a USB cable? Does your computer have USB 1.0 or USB 2.0 ports? Because the only time I've tried to use an Ipod I couldn't and I think its because I had USB 1.0 ports. Your problem sounds similar to what I went through.

Maybe this is a good thread to ask this question...

I use iTunes at home, but I'm not allowed to use it at work now (thanks, bastards). Is there any other software out there that will make sense of the gobbledygook directories that iTunes makes on the iPod so I can listen to stuff properly?

You could use a winamp plugin called mlPod which will allow you to use an ipod with winamp (press Alt + L for the library and the ipod will be there).

Winamp's banned too :(
They put in a check for the two big ones, but stuff like foobar is ok. It would have to be some pretty niche software or something, I reckon.

Edit: and with that, I discovered foo_pod
Thanks for the inspiration :)

Yeah man, if you don't intend to buy songs off iTunes, kick that POS off your PC and connect to iPod via FooPod. And get a cheap Firewire PCI card to connect with if your puter don't have Firewire.
