OK get this.

Physical Drive, Primary Master.

40 gig drive, split into 2 20 gig partitions. First partition is my Windows XP Partition and Mandrake was installed to the 2nd empty partition.

There is also a 160g drive attached, bit it's secondary and irellevant.

So Linux installs it's boot loader, with 3 linux options, and Windows and Windows2 (I guess 2nd drive).

Linux boots fine. Selecting either Windows option and I get some stupid error, like Unrecognised Volume or some shit.

Boot off Windows XP cd, goto recovery console, log into windows partition etc. I type FIXMBR, which then advises me I probably shouldn't do this, but I do it anyway.

Then I type BOOTCFG, and make sure my windows installation is the only option, which it is.

Now when I reboot I get "Cannot load operating system" or something very similar.

Only you can help me GAF!!!

I can't help, but I love how it's somehow Windows' fault after you:

A) Installed a 3rd party bootloader

B) Performed the FIXMBR command after being advised you shouldn't

Yeah, damn that Windows XP, always fucking everything up when you disregard warnings :)

Anyways, if it's a LEGAL copy of Windows XP, you get free phone tech support, and they can probably help you recover the OS. If it's not legal, well...

hahahahahahahahahaha

(And yeah, I have no problems laughing at him if he did Pir8 Windows)

Go fuck yourself. A mod changed the topic of my thread, what do you propose I do about it ?

I thought someone here could help. Maybe there still is, but you can get bent.

HAHA! Thats funny. You would've been fine but you had to panic and do that.

I smell formatting.

You didn't run ASR did you?

I remember back with 98 you used to be able to type "FDISK /MBR" then "SYS C:" and you would be good as new.

I assumed that FIXMBR would perform a similar function. I could have been wrong, I admit it.

ASR = Automated System Recovery ?? Nope, just what I mentioned in my first post.

I wonder why MS hasn't built in "boot cd"'s into windows yet, maybe because they just want you to use the windows cd and not into any sort of dos environment.

Or at least give some more help files or assistance with the recovery console. People I talk to think they are repairing their OS because it says "press r to repair installation" and they get pissed because they think they just booted into dos and don't know what to do :lol.

Ok run the recovery console and type fixboot or fixboot c:
if that doesn't work then try fixmbr again.
If that doesn't work get a floppy get a floppy disk, copy the ntldr, ntdetect and boot.ini to it from a PC with the same OS or from the XP instalation CD /i386 folder(I don't think boot.ini is here, copy it from another pc) and copy those files to drive c:

If that doesn't help, the I don't know.
