(HERESAY) Target Launch Quantities Revealed?

There are approximately 1100 Target stores (don't know if they're all in the US or not). Let's assume the maximum of 50 units per store. That would be 55k for Target, and Target has approximately a 12% market share. This would give us a ~460k Day 1 launch quantity.

Just another possible data point in a sea of numbers.

Target Xbox 360 Launch Policies
READ MORE: Launch, retail, target, xbox 360

Ryan works at a Target somewhere in the United States (we’re keeping his Super Target store location a secret for his protection). Ryan emailed us with a detailed breakdown of how Target was going to be handling the Xbox 360 sales.
Some snippets from the email after the jump.

“Consoles are under a strict Nov. 22 street date and they mention that any failure to adhere to this will result in Target losing all future shipments.”

“The average store can expect to have between 25 and 50 consoles the first day, but it mentions elsewhere that this number can be as low as 10. This is all determined by average store volume. I checked the computer and the consoles, games and peripherals are already in the system, so if you have a generous Target employee they can check to see exactly the amount of consoles they have in when they get the shipment.”

On Nov. 22:

“Every store will print up tickets representing the number of 360’s and core systems they have in stock. They are also supposed to print a large sign informing customers that the store has sold out and keep it on hand.”

“Starting at 6:00 a.m., team members (employees) are supposed to go out and hand out tickets to people in line on a first come first serve basis. If all the tickets are not handed out on the first trip, they will go out every 15 minutes until there are no more left.”

Update: This is a call to other retailers, GameStop, EB, Kohl’s, Kmart, Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Amazon, whoever, we want to hear from you about how your retail outlet is going to be handling the customer zerg for the Xbox 360. Send us your tactics at tips@kotaku.com.

Thats how Target did the xbox launch...couple buddies of mine got there at 4am and waited....they came out at 6am and handed out ticets and I think they only had 14 units so quit a few people were upset and began calling friends on their cell phones with the bad news.

both my buddies were able to get xboxes. I just waited till later in the day and went to eb and got my prepaid one.

already have 1 x360 preordered online, but will camp out for another.....just in case. heh

Close to exciting times. November 22nd 12:01 am. I'm in my car going home with my games and such.

those from small towns... will it be more difficult, or easier to get a launch unit "camping"?

i'll be visiting my parents that week in small town usa, and wanna know my odds. i was planning on heading there maybe 2 hours before they open (or 10pm, if they'll be open 24 hours), but i'd hate to get there too late

The only system you'll need to camp for is the PS3. I've been able to pick up the GC, Xbox, DS, and GBA all on launch day without camping or waiting in long lines. Since you'll be in small town, just show up to the TRU or best Buy before opening and you should be able to get one without a problem.

i dont think this small town has a best buy... dunno about tru. wal-mart ftw?

EDIT: no tru, eb, or gamestop within 50 miles. nearest wal-mart is 26 miles :lol

and i've had to wait in line in so cal for my xbox at launch. i got there about 90 min before midnight and was 20th in line. there werent enough systems for everyone that showed up :(

Sounds very reasonable - 1M worldwide for the launch:

-500k NA
-300k EU (100k UK)
-200k JP

That doesn't seem like much. They have been downplaying the launch (quantity) but that is extremely limited.
They would want to be giving a good supply in their (weekly?) shipments to retailers to maximise the benefit of launching first.
Seems they should've just concentrated on the US though.

Dammit... I was planning on going to Target when they opened (no camping) and just walking in and getting one. I really hope there isn't much hype with the general public this time around.

Yeah, you should be fine honestly
Its gonna be one of those items that people will say "Oh shit! Its out! I want one!"
and then by then its already gone. or the other case of "Oh, that looks cool, I wanna be hip too!"

You're extrapolating too high. The 25 to 50 unit total seems to be for Super Target stores and there aren't many of them in the USA.

If you want to do some more extrapolation I've heard from a midrange walmart store they are getting 14 total units at launch.

It's not and that's the high-end number for this "estimation."

Yeah, I used to work at a Walmart Supercenter near here that's considered a pretty major one, and my friend who still works there says that they're expecting about twenty, and half of those are going to employees. Thank God I never have to camp out for systems and deal with this bullshit.

I was waiting for that. I was doing something else and I forgot to put Xbox360 in the title as well. By the time, I realized it was too late to edit the title.

Oh well, people found it anyway.

I've been hearing that the United States is getting somewhere around 400,000 units. Perhaps even as low as 300K.

And let's not forget that a signifigant percentage of these units will be the "Tard Pack" SKUs. Worst case scenario, the U.S. will only get 250,000 of the real Xbox 360s, with the rest being the tards.

That's what pisses me off. The full shipment won't be the real 360 and I don't want anything but the premium pack.

MS should have shipped 100 percent premium packs for xmas.

MS shouldn't have had a dual-SKU setup at launch. It would make more sense after launch, because everyone who was going to buy a 360 at launch would be the kind of gamer that wants the $400 system.

Looks like the eBay hawks are going to make a pretty penny this Christmas.
